Mention of proud noongar men and their connect with football might easily have included reference to one Sydney Stack.
While his difficulty in living up to our expectations has been overdone on this site, his skill as a footballer at his best, as well as his love of country remain absolutely clear.
Syd has in fact achieved a lot for which he should be extremely proud, and again I’d be more than happy to see him back at the Tigers in the not to distant future.
Lets hope he has not burnt too many bridges on his way out and left the door open for the coaches to consider him in the future

Here is the latest update.

Richmond

Quinton Narkle is one of the biggest names hoping for a second chance at AFL level after being delisted by Geelong following 41 games across six seasons. The West Australian trained with the Tigers in December and has made a strong impression to start the new year after losing eight kilograms and finishing third in the second heat of the 2km time trial last week, recording a time under seven minutes. The Tigers are also looking at country football star Kaelan Bradtke, who started with the club on December 5. The 21-year-old kicked 39 goals in the Ovens and Murray League last year and also made two appearances in the VFL for Sydney's reserves. Richmond also looked at Oakleigh Chargers product Luke Teal before Christmas.

Put Gibcus on the LTI list and give him ample time to rehab and get the hammy fixed and select 2 players
it would be highly unlikely we get through to rounds 10-13 without a player going down for the rest of the season which we could then swap with Gibcus if needed

After Gibcus surgery today IMO he should be placed on LTIL and we bring him back around round 14
in the meantime pick up both Spakle Narkle and Bradtke

That makes a lot of sense.
Not sure about Sparkle though.

Doesn't work that way unfortunately. Players have to be placed on the inactive list (different to LTIL) to be replaced in the SSP/midseason draft. Once you're on the inactive list you have to stay there until the end of the season.

Narkle looking very trim and ready to play. Not standing out athletically though, he's not at the front of the pack.
A couple of errors in training, once in match sim was too slow and hesitant at half back took too many short steps and nailed in a ripper cumberland tackle.
Another time in the full ground drill he took it at hoofed it high without looking. It looked lazy.
But generally hes training ok

It's the ok pacy narkle or the alure of a unknown like bradke who's range can be complete dud to super star,it's not a easy decision, maybe leaning Bradke.

Bradtke is a good size, not a stringbean, but it isnt a professional athletes physique yet.
Will need to strip down and furnish which will take a couple of years. Not a criticism though as he hasnt come from a pro regime, what youd get from rutherglen first division. Expect he will end up a well built power athlete.

Runs well and doesnt look out of place on the track.

At one stage he led up and was outpaced by Tylar Young, perhaps more about attack and commitment than pace.

Was involved in match sim, playing as a key forward roaming to the edge of the wings. Found some free grass at stages.

All up theres much to work with. Could end up a good player, not necessarily superstar levep though useful. But it will take years

If 7 minutes got third in the 2km heat,

We have some engine issues.

He came 3rd while running against the 1st , 2nd year players and the talls, just beat Taz and Miller home by a couple of metres.

Yeah but the reported time is 'under 7 minutes'

Safe to assume thats in the 6.50's,

Which is left hand end of bell curve for a mid in the modern game,

Youde want some serious other tools to overcome that glaring weakness;

Blistering pace, big overhead game, mega tough, etc.

Young Narkle has some polish, but im not sure theres enough to overcome a 6.50's 2000m?

6.30 is pretty much the cut off for modern mids, without some other outstanding attribute to compensate.

Elijah Hollands, for example, a part-time mid doing his first preseason, got back from the off season fat, and ran 5.50. Hes essentially lapped a seasoned, svelte Narkle, after 6 weeks washing pork belly down with milk stouts

Doesn’t even have any polish. His disposal efficiency is categorised below average year on year. In fact, he’s below average in most categories.

That’s bad for a 5 year player.

Bradtke looking more and more like the one to be added to our list and Colina .. who knows?
Narkle poses a problem but if he isn’t AFL standard then it does the player no favour by avoiding that fact.

So with the last list it’s always a very speculative pick with high probability of it not working out, rookies are a better chance I would have thought - so basically a depth player for our rookie / depth players if that makes sense.

So with the Hopps and Trants joining us, our depth midfielders are players like Dow, Steely Green, Ross, Sonsie and Graham who all sit behind Cotch and Prestie, and players like Short, Dusty, Shai who will also be in there at times. So narkle sparkle perhaps push Steely out but I reckon all the others are ahead of him so I just can’t see him adding even much insurance tbh.

Now for key forwards and Bradtke - hmm our list just ain’t that long in this department so for a backup position to back up our depth players, I reckon surely Bradtke gets a run.

Anyway, by the end of Feb we should have all the cats intell that we would need I would have thought.

A thought on Quinton.
Dimma loves Bakes. Truly loves him. Wishes he had 2 more. Baker backline marauder, Bakes midfield, Snake hunting forward. 3 Bakes, imagine that!
Throughout 2022 he was used to plug holes like the little Dutch boy.

So what if Sparkle Narkle is training at half back to fill Baker's spot?
Not necessarily as best 22, but someone who can slot into hbf and release Baker to cover a gaping hole.

maybe thats why we have QN on the track?
