Where Should Team 20 Be Located?

Where Should Team 20 Be Located?

  • The Top End, playing out of Darwin/Alice Springs/Cairns?

  • 3rd Team in WA?

  • 3rd Team in SA?

  • Canberra

  • Sunshine Coast

  • Murray/Riverina Region, perhaps based out of Albury/Wodonga?

  • Other (please list)

  • No to a 20th team, but a merger to reduce teams back to 18

  • Cheese Sandwich

  • New Zealand

Rather not have 20 teams but AFL would need to grow a pair if a merger was to happen.

I reckon the list tells us the options are limited.

Darwin would only work if they had a indoor stadium with AC, but would retention be an issue?

I like the idea of the Murray/Riverina region, but I'm not sure if its practical due to population. Maybe They can split games with a Canberra team?

WA seems to be the only realistic option.

I have added merger, NZ cheese sanga options.
I voted for the Murray/ Albury Wodonga as that’s where I’m from & we are footy mad here. I can guarantee we would get more to our games then the Giants do to theirs.

But in all honesty there is to many teams as it is & the problem with one here will be the same in Tasmania , we already have our own teams to support.

Won’t get far without passionate members/supporters turning up to games.

NT for me makes most sense.

FWIW I reckon GWS will ultimately relocate to Canberra
Yep, GWS should relocate to Canberra under the name the Murrumbidgee Giants. This covers a fair swathe of southern NSW and the ACT. Play preseason in Wagga.

I just don’t like the games of footy played up in Cairns or Darwin. The game deteriorates into a game of “who can pick up the ball” let alone kick it or worse still, mark it. Humidity turns the game into virtually unwatchable. All IMHO of course.

If we were making decisions purely as a business we would get rid of a team in Melbourne, North is the obvious one
We would move the giants to Canberra

20 teams ,l guess the standard of the AFL games will drop,if it hasn't already.
Free agency will start becoming more important than the draft.
You will start seeing a longer retention of average player's ,it's already happening.

There are going to be some massive premiership droughts.

20 years on average per flag means 3-4 in your lifetime is an expected return if every team wins one every 20 years. We have truly been blessed these last few years so will be hard to keep perspective. Supports rolling the dice on a flag when you can for me. NFL/NHL have 32 and NBA 3, EPL is kind of crazy with all its divisions so we are low on that scale.
