Welcome to the Tigers Oleg Markov

Like LEGO, hope he makes it. Will be able to kick a goal on the run too if played up the ground more. Wing or traditional HFF, probably wing. Think Ellis with more grunt and better kicking.

Agreed - plugs into the system well for right now - but we have better options on the list for the long haul

Going ok , though I think there’s better options on the list , just ok in too many areas imho
I’ve been liking his run through the middle. Most defenders when they run go around the boundary but Oleg goes straight down the guts. Like just about every other player, if given opportunity, will make a very good rebounding defender.

Having said that he will get squeezed out come finals when/if we get Grimes, Broad, Astbury as well as Shed and Dion back. And maybe Caddy.

Olegs confidence increasing.

Although I thought he should have flown with Ryan a couple of times when Ryan was his direct opponent in a pack marking contest.

Egg was doing the same when he played.
Maybe it is a team directive, but I think if your man flies third up you have to go with him.

Thought he was just going in the backline this week but that play in the last was brilliant. Not sure backline is his best spot. Broad better suited. Wing looks good.

Ellis had more chance to shine. Lego has limited chances but right now seems to not doing a bad job. He has a good kick so I have hopes for him to be a regular

Completely agree UK, LEGO hasn’t really had a run at it and I reckon if he gets a chance he will make a fist of it. Some are saying he is a bit player but not best 22 but has he had the opportunity that others have been given?? If he gets a good run of games and doesn’t cut the mustard then so be it but give the kid a go. I reckon he will make it.

I have a different take.

When your a poor team you give players a run at it because the standard and expectations are low - so average players become better average players.

As our situation is now, when your a good team the standards are higher so players have less chance to prove themselves - players can come in and if they are good enough they show enough quickly and become really good players, those who are only average players are soon moved on. Average players aren’t given a run at it in good teams as they don’t cut the standard.

I see Markov as an average player tbh so won’t be around for the long haul and cant see him getting a long string of games to prove himsel.

That sounds a bit double Dutch so I haven‘t really explained it that well. .:bash

It’s a good point and I oft wondered why some players get a longer term crack at it than others. Right now his form is best 22, let’s see if it can be sustained, I reckon he’s under the microscope leading into finals , if he passes the the tests he’s a keeper , has some good qualities for Richmond style footy , quick , loves a dash neat kick and good mark

It's a luxury to have a player of Markov's calibre as a stop-gap in defence. There are a few players who might end up taking his spot before the finals, but considering our recent run with injuries i'm grateful that Oleg has shown what he has.

He's only played 21 games and the knockers think he's not going to make it. He could become a very handy footballer with 50 games under his belt: athletic attributes i.e. real speed, good leap. Brave enough but can get stronger with a couple more pre-seasons. Versatile: can be used back/wing/forward. Kicking is average to good but can well improve too, with that extra experience and confidence. Same for decision-making.

Just needs the games; worth persevering with. There's others on the list with lesser credentials than Oleg for a future. We always have a need for speed and don't have that many express types.

Oleg, will definitely play AFL 100 plus games. I like him. Will get better with game time either here or at another club.

I like his skillset. If he continues to improve and maximizes his strengths then we gain another amazing asset.

It's scary to think what a full season might do for him.

This.
One of the key messages that his coaches have consistently said is how quickly he picks things up.
A lot forget that in his first season he showed real promise.
The past couple of season's he's battled a knee injury which he fortunately now seems to be past.
IMO Oleg brings a skill set that not too many have in our side. Very handy utility with genuine wheels.
I'm happy to persevere for now. Keep playing him.

Apologies if previously mentioned. What I loved the other night was how he kind of counseled Noah after he gave up that free to Darling.
Appeared calm and showed great leadership.
Must be difficult basically waiting in the wings as you watch your mates go all the way.
Credit to his perseverance and emotional intelligence I reckon.

Agree. He's got some AFL qualities. An attacking defender with speed and endurance. Neat kick. Unlikely to play finals if we have everyone available but I reckon he's shown enough to stay on the list.
