Welcome to the Tigers Nathan Broad

I feel a little sorry for Broad , he has copped the full book , 3 weeks for the premiership medal and 4 weeks for the sling

while all the case mentioned above got off or got off light

the ones I remember Ablett nails someone (2nd time in as many weeks) , full on a cranky spiteful act , no accident , media blah blah hes a great bloke champion of the game , we want the champions playing
he gets off
the next week Soldo goals from a set shot as he turns to go back to the centre an oppo player gets in his way , throws his head back to try and milk a free
despite the height difference replays show chest only contact and the player clearly staging , 1 week , a month before or 2 months late Ivan would have been fine

timing is everything

Well said. The media narrative drives a lot of the outcomes.
Dangerfield knocking Vlastuin into next week with a cocked elbow in a Grand Final & not even being cited, is the worst.

The biggest contradiction by the media which just proves their witchhunt agenda was in 2020 I think. I can't remember who it was on but Lynch pushed someones head into the ground, he was hung drawn and quartered in the media for the rest of the year. That very same year in the GF, Joel Selwood pushes bakes head into the turf and I remember the quote from the commentators was something like "Joel Selwood fighting until the end".

The media create drama whereever they want to and it may just be us being Richmond fans we see it more on us, but the hypocrisy of the media certainly seems to be to our disadvantage.

Remember that clearly. I remember Hudson saying exactly that. Probably the single most clear and indisputable example of pro-Selwood/ Geelong bias (and/ or anti-Richmond bias) you'll ever see.

Not sure how you determine DeGoey's as more vicious. Dangerfield was able to buffer the impact with his arms, whereas Broad smacked Parnell's head into the turf
By looking at the two videos and seeing the torque DeGoye puts into his motion compared to Broad. The second sentence of your post is where the luck comes in.

Which is precisely what is wrong with the way the AFL adjudicates this.

Why is it wrong?

If someone shoots a bullet and it misses it’s a different charge to if it hits and kills someone. Same action different outcome different penalty.

I get the argument the action is what we should deter but we don’t generally seem to do this in society and is pretty normalised. (Right or wrong)

Not sure about missing. Maybe the difference between getting someone between the eyes or shoulder. There is a difference in sentence being murder or attempted murder. But the intent is recognised and penalised accordingly in the lesser case. Additional penalty based on outcome. Difference between getting 15 or 25 years.
AFL puts too much emphasis on outcome. If AFL ran the courts you’d get 2 for attempted and 50 for murder.

I was more thinking about the difference between someone in a gun fight wounding someone (poorly worded by me to call this missing) (minor injury) and someone killing someone and it pretty much coming down to luck with the same action.

I think murder is more about intent so you would expect attempted murder and actual murder to be closer in punishment. The court has made a decision about intent.

I think its a very interesting debate about penalties and how hard you should tie them to outcomes vs to the actions.

If you could the consequence should link to what is in the mind and about intent to do damage or conversely about a lack of awareness the action could do damage and therefore more a negligence/education thing. We don't have any way to 100% know what someone was thinking when they did the action, so we use outcomes or even observed actions as a proxy. Sometimes we use the punishment to send a signal to others.

I could certainly be convinced that getting x weeks for a sling tackle / second motion with both arms pinned and x+1 weeks for same that leads to a concussion would be a much better way to do it. And x probably being 3.

Attempting to punch the ball with your elbow and connecting someones chin and taking them out of a grand final should be 8.

Na, he didn't pin both arms and momentum almost swung them around. Houston put his arm out to protect himself. Not even sure that should get a suspension?
yeah tend to agree. Not sure that one was that bad.

You’re kidding aren’t you?
Swung him around and the player landed with his face on the turf. Arms have nothing to do with it. It’s the sling they say they’re trying to rub out of the game yet this guy only gets a week. Where’s the deterrent there?

If you shoot with the intent to kill then it is attempted murder which is close to the same sentence as murder.

The thing is that there is no intent to injure the opposition player in a sling tackle, but what the AFL is apparently trying to do is to get rid of the sling tackle.

What they are actually doing is to penalise dependent upon the luck of whether you concuss the tackled player or not, which, given this is a lottery, is just silly.

They give 1 week for a sling tackle, then 4 if it leads to concussion and still 4 weeks if you run elbow first into Dion Prestia (none if you run elbow first into Nick Vlastuin).

It is a complete farce. If the action is likely to lead to injury and therefore the AFL want to get rid of said action, penalise it every time with the same penalty. Would also add clarity, everyone would know where they stand.

D. Barrett saying West Coast having a crack at free agent Broad.
Turning 30 this year, has been a wonderful find but a start of second round compo pick in a year we don’t have a first round pick would be handy. And we drafted Banks & Brown for this type of role. I posted that his manager expected a deal to get down soon. If it goes on without an announcement there might be something in it.

Yep its understandable thats happening and I'm tipping there is every chance he might finally be swayed to go back for a couple of reasons.

His missus is from WA I think, as he is and they are having a baby round Aug/Sep/Oct this year.

She'll want to be with her family Id hazard a guess so that will make it harder for him to stay on at the RFC.

Probably why the one year extension only as the baby and moving home might've been in their planning.

Time will tell.

Luckily he's already racked up the ton with the RFC.

If he goes hopefully, he doesn't play anywhere near enough games to jeopardies and future F?S.

Looks like it might be 2023 or bust for the Flag chnaces.

Tigers might lose Cotchin JR8, Grimes and Broady from our great side at seasons end.

That said of course I'm hoping she stays on at the RFC.

We will be lucky to get a 2nd round pick after our own pick which will be in the 30's

3 x $450k would be about max he gets offered from the eagles most likely 2 x $450k + 1 year option

The AFL didn't give a decent pick for Ellis going for 450k 4 yrs. We would lucky to get pick 50 as compo.
But that suits me. We probably find the next Baker or Graham. Just don't give 1st rounder then we pick up the next Coleman Jones.
Maybe the AFL might bend us over and offer us pick 17.
That would stress out Clark & Co
