Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

Thought he and Vlaustin were our best last night.

Getting better with age.

Interesting that he went in for our last 2 centre bounces for the year, and was on Neale for the last stoppages.

He was good all game, again.

A nice little blind turn of sorts by Marlion last night, really could've done with his hardness in the guts when Dion went off.

Needs to be played as a pure midfielder IMO.
The last 10 minutes showed us what he is capable of. He was the only one who remotely looked like he could match Lochie Neale at the contest and gave real urgency and physicality when he was at the centre bounces.

Add Marlion and Taranto to a squad of Cotchin, Prestia, Sonsie and Ross and you have some genuine size and hardness in your midfield group and can't possibly be worse that the squad of midgets we have used this year.

And, this allows Hugo or Sam Banks to play on the wing.

yep

Should have been in the guts months ago, but definitely as soon as Dion went down. Missed a trick. Should be Plan A next year.

At a function earlier in the year I asked a Tiger coach whether they'd considered moving Marlion into the middle on a more permanent basis. They had & he trains there often at training but said it would be a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul as he plays that wing role so well. Safe to say I too think the move should have happened ages ago.

No doubt he and KMac are head and shoulders our best wingers, and it's an important role. But so is centre square mid. At least he should have gone in for more bounces before playing wing in normal play.

Nah, dont need him. We have Jayden Short.

Pickett does have the unique mixture of skills, speed, agility and aggression that is lacking in our mids to make life difficult for the opposition when they get on top around the ball.

At least they are thinking about it.

Wingers need to be good one on one and be very good runners, and I reckon we have a few young guys that have the potential to fill the role.
Ralphsmith is the one I would be challenging over summer to step up.

I have given up on this ever happening.

When Tim Kelly left South Freo, Marlion went in to the middle and played like a natural. It put him on the AFL radar. I get that it was WAFL level, but the point is he really dominated.

The Tigers have won three flags with a team of players who play their roles week in week out. It is hard to argue with the results.

But.......our midfield has been fragile for the last two seasons and I think most football people would say it has been our weak link.

I feel very non-plussed when I see us struggling in the middle while Marlion plays a defensive wing role. I just don't get it.

Not to mention he won a Norm Goss Medal and got Norm Smith votes playing in the guts.

I think it's as simple as he and KMac are our best wingers by a long way and it's a role we value highly especially on the wide expanses of the G. And we only have one of him. However with Ross having played the role Marlion should have gone inside last night. And next year, unless we get two starting on-ballers in the trade period.

This is one of many reasons we should get a better mids coach. Lenny Hayes is too late and has returned to the Aints.
