Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

There goes the AFL conspiracy theories.
There goes the AFL conspiracy theories.
Those of us who are anti AFL - we are just frustrated that Richmond does not get a level playing field. Richmond does not suit the AFL business plan anymore. We had our on field success and are financially viable - so on your bike Richmond - no more on field success for you - Hocking has ensured that. I really don't know how we won the 2020 premiership - it just proves what a great club we are. The AFL requires non victorian clubs to be successful to pump up their media rights, they don't require already viable Victorian clubs to have on field success.
You may call us conspiracists - but really its just we are anti 'AFL business' and that Richmond is on the negative receiving end. Its not a fun loving, open and free game anymore which is a real shame.

It's all in your head

Yes it was deliberate & crude but it’s just worth a fine. No injury resulted.
'Potential to cause injury?' This is the absolute farce.

Ooh no, don't you know that potential to cause injury is far worse than causing an injury? Vlas gets knocked out, that Essendon player with blood pouring out of their head (which is sacrosanct remember) they are nowhere near as bad as that horrific potential.

Think of the children, they could be potentially harmed by potential injuries.

The AFL has an interest in seeing different sides win premierships, they don't like to a side dominate for too long. That's it. That's the extent of the conspiracy. Us losing games has more to do with our injuries than anything Hocking has done. And we've still won as many games as we've lost.

Before we had this success, many on here said "oh how I wish we were feared and hated again". Well, we got we wanted and it turns out y'all don't like it.

This board really has become an echo-chamber for theorising, whinging and feeling sorry for ourselves. Cheer up Emo Kids - it really isn't that bad.

Feared and hated is fine. Passion drives that. It's what makes it mean so much when you win and lose.

I think most here are just arguing for a level playing field.

Just a modicum of consistency would do for a start.

When you get a week for a coat hanger tackle, which probably should have been a fine but a week is not out of the bounds of reasonableness, but other players get a fine for opening up someone's face, or for knocking out a player, then you really have to wonder. If potential for injury gets a week then surely actual injury should get at least the same sanction if not more.

And it probably is - I am a conspiracist after all. I just see data that supports my wacko theories - I wish I didn't.
I just want sport to be sport and all teams have a level playing field - not orchestrated by the controlling body. Its not under 10's where we protect the poorer teams. Let the good teams be good teams. If we loose because of poor form and injuries - then so be it - we have that at the moment, plus a big handbrake.
And ps angry ant - I love being loathed by other clubs, it means we are doing well.

I agree with you by the way. Must be all in my head as well. After Jacks comments last night it must be all in the clubs head also.

You cant swing and hit an opponent
If that happened to castagna there would be up roar.
Just what are you on about, Zip? Go back and look at the GAblett non-suspensions x 2 last year.
Go and look at how Goldstein punches Wright in the head quite late, cuts him open forcing him to leave the ground unable to take his kick (not sure if he is concussed), unlike Starcevich who was fine to play out the game. Or look at how Walker slams Oliver into the turf long after he has disposed of the ball - that's in this round! In both cases, merely fined. What an *smile* joke. [There's a lot more I could cite as well - Grimes, Vlaustin etc.]

Pickett's is really mild in comparison. It's blatant discrimination. Get real.

If only that were so. What we have often here is "Gil and Hocking are out to get us, Hocking is changing the rules to benefit Geelong and penalise us, the media is all out to get us, there is a concerted effort on all sides to victimise us, all the other fans hate us and we don't get any respect".

Then in this atmosphere of paranoia and fear any unfavourable incident eg Pickett's suspension is cast in the same mode of conspiracy and contrasted to other incidents that are vaguely similar whether in the same game or four years ago.

This site is the perfect example of an echo chamber right now. The AFL is inconsistent, yes. Yes, we are feared, yes plenty dislike us, yes we on the bum side of umpiring decisions sometimes. Yes, nuffies in the media don't like us. So what. Ignore them. The whinging and self-pity I see on these boards a lot of the time is pretty sad. We've just won three out of four flags, we have a great side who play great footy. Yes life is tough, so what. Harden up and enjoy what we have now because for sure it won't last forever.

Just my opinion, carry on.

Staravich stayed down like he been shot.
Its the clubs responsibility to highlight the missed free kicks.
Highlight how we have had 3 players kod in the last 6 months and nothing has been done.
Fritsch raises his elbow and he gets cleaned.
The game is fkked.

Wasn't that cringeworthy to the max.
Never thought I would see something more cringeworthy than the bow and arrow or the motorbike. "The Barometer" (WTF!) has taken the cake on this one. What a tool who has absolutely has no runs on the board to be able to pull something like that off.

Yep, if it was Dusty doing it then you could understand as he's a bonafide gun. At the same time I'd prefer he didn't!

Who did he think he was? Hulk Hogan?

I strongly disagree with AA. The prejudice against RFC is totally arguable and consistent from AFL headquarters with ample evidence and examples. We have been such a great club to be the best team for the last 4 years and win 3 flags that time in defiance of this.
Just have a look at Parrot's latest pronouncements, talking of "Gill's mouthpieces and lapdogs":

https://www.afl.com.au/video/620911...dal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1621998499001

My comment: sometimes I am annoyed by what Dimma says at his pressers because he talks in far too many cliches but when he does have a go at something, he goes at it in a half-cocked kind of fashion. His criticisms of our HG at Marvel and the umpiring in the Lions game being the two latest examples. What has long been required is for RFC to really come out and make its case in both instances, although I know Benny did make a statement re Marvel. But RFC then failed to follow up in the ensuing media debate led by flogs like Parrot and Blobbo, allowing it to be brushed aside as 'sooking' or 'whinging', instead of having their quite justified arguments to be heard. Arguments that are strongly backed by empirical evidence e.g.
- Tiger fans do NOT attend HGs force shifted to MS, which is now AFL owned, thus the former imperatives re its sustainability do not apply. Gale's case was for the need for RFC to regain the lost revenue from 2020 which is again thrown away, lost to us, by the MS forced non-home HG!

I know a lot here claim conspiracy, don't think I ever have (although I reckon we are getting badly treated and this has been going on for a few years).

So, let's ignore the conspiracy talk for a moment.

When you compare what Pickett got rubbed out for to incidents in the same round of football, hell, even in the same game, how is this to be explained?

I'll provide some options just to make it easy for everyone:
  1. Gross incompetence
  2. Massive inconsistency.
  3. A professional game being run by a bunch of amateurs.
  4. Rule interpretations which are just a joke, eg: potential versus actual harm.
Any more suggestions?

If any or all of the above apply then surely there needs to be change, the current situation is absurd.

The very fact Dimma commented on this is a bit of an indication, we have been on the end of fair number of howlers for a few years and Dimma has always responded by talking about how hard a game it is to umpire. He must be getting pretty fed up to change his line.

Mostly 2 and 3 but not as extreme as you make out.

Case closed.
