Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Dan’s not helping anyone but him.
We get a raffle ticket by way of compensation.
Let’s hope it’s a winner.

A raffle ticket holds more potential value to our next premiership than any 28yo next year

All involved made a rational, evidence-based decision IMO

“Evidence based decision” to do what?
For him to leave?
Hardly. He left because he wanted something else.

For us to trade him out?
Well it was obvious he wanted out, if GCS paid the price he could leave. If they didn’t he stayed.
Whats evidence based about that?

The picks we received in the trade?
Decent enough trade with the picks we received.
But as for replacement value, that remains to be seen. Who is drafted at those picks. How they develop.
Nothing evidence based about that either. Personal judgement isn’t actual evidence based, with regard to draftees.

The only evidence we have is DRioli wanted out in a hurry. Blair got what he could in a trade.
What we get in the draft isn’t anything evidence based. Opinion and judgement. Which as we’ve often seen doesn’t always work out.

These points are all true, but they're focused on micro factors. I think the club is going by evidence that fits a macro strategy

I put no stock into what is said publicly about player motivations to move btw. I think it's purely PR, so I'm not even thinking about his intentions.

All I take into account is that the club is unambiguously entering a post-dynasty era, and the current goal is to rebuild a wooden spoon team for a serious shot in 5-8 years.

Still weak to leave, forget about helping in times of need. Hope he has a shocker & Dimma coaches them to another non finals appearance before burning out, again!
I want the Suns to fail under Hunwick cos of all the backroom and under the table shenanigans that obviously got pulled to get Hunwick out of Punt Road.

And then the shiftiness to get Dan out of Punt Road. Corrupt Footbasll League.

Im death riding them pricks as well as the Coke Cats and Smugpies.

May Houston and Membrey be your Taranto and Hopper moment, rolling the last dice for a fail.

So by all that. You mean we’re better off getting younger players than keeping a 28 year old. Is that it? :giggle:

Rioli WAS 1 of my all time favourites.
Not anymore. It will be interesting if we boo him, 3 time premiership player.
Raines Cloke and Wood all got booed but they were only 1 time premiership players..
I would've been ok if he went to WC or Footscary

Exactly …….. well except that Cloke played in 2 Tiger flags and Wood 3

Cheer up folks, Daniel is a 28 year old half back flanker with a dodgy ankle. His most influential work was from 2017 to 2020.

He was never a dominant match-winning force as a defender. He was a very classy mover who looked great when attacking.

Our draft picks may well be the match-winning types that we desperately need.

One thing is for sure, we have to do something radically different if we are to rise up in a warped competition with so many other teams doing the same.

I reckon we timed it to perfection. Love Daniel and thought he was the most underrated player in the AFL for two years.

Anyone else follow Daniel on Social Media?
Very hard to watch his loved up antics now that he’s not a Richmond player.
Has now tattooed his partners name on his hand.
I’ve had to unfollow him.

If Mozza gets better we won't even remember Daniel. I'm glad we've got the Maurice in our team again.

Insta or X? Thought I was following him in X, but he's never posted anything.

Emphasis on potential!
Nobody knows, again a raffle ticket, no guarantees.
Would have been admirable to repay the first 4 or so smile years he had at the club trading on the Rioli name.
I’ll take 4 years of Rioli ahead of a raffle ticket to help the rebuild.

I'm thinking our next push will be around 2028-2032, so the only benefit to keeping him is if he's teaching something to the next batch of kids that will help us win flags that they can't learn from anyone else still with the club.

Besides that, his value to our next premiership team is zero, so we might as well take a couple of raffle tickets.

One of those picks is rumoured to end up as pick 2 anyway, so I think it's an easy win/win decision

Yeah it’s pretty sickening. But I did enjoy Richo’s post showing himself falling into his pool !
