Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

What a jet.
Absolute ripping game.
I too was worried when he was chasing the Carlscum flog. Just couldn't get him.
Has been a revelation since going back.
Our cleanest ball user.
Rolled gold.

The Carlton spud was a sub so he had much fresher legs. Still fluffed it as he took too long to kick it.

Was our best with his run and carry and ball use.

Rioli stood out so much as the rest of the team was hack kicking the footy that often you could see the noticeable difference.

Also liked how he set up a goal for his uncle.

Keep up the great work Rioli.

Not sure we have had a player with bigger turnaround. He had declined year on year and was borderline unplayable until his switch down to the back. He should have been AA last year, was runner up B&F and last night he was BOG for mine. There is no player I'd rather have ball in hand other than Dan...maybe Dusty, but its line ball.

What makes him stand out for a half-back dasher is that he is also a very good defender. Doesn't get beaten. And he has COMPOSURE.
Yep, some small defenders defend, some run with the ball, some kick well. A few do 2 of those, DRioli would be close to the only 1 who does all 3. to an elite level.

Double efforts by Dan.

Look at this tackle in the final seconds.

And right at the very end too!

In that last minute or so he chased that Carlton bloke No 4 basically from one 50m arc to the other. He was never probably going to catch home but he kept chasing and pressuring the bloke. Gutsy effort.
The Carlton bloke couldn’t his his target - won the footy back - and it ended up with Lynch and the goal. So Rioli‘s effort there could have been a real factor.

Its been an absolute pleasure watching him play since he went to the backline.

Yep. I feel better when he's got the ball bursting out of defence. Deserves more credit than he's given.

It was a great chase. Wasn't going to catch the fresh legs of their sub but put in the big effort so when the Carlton player made a slight mistake he panicked. That led to him hurrying the kick to McKay and no mark.

We really could do with a couple more Daniel’s.

Quick over the first 10 yards and beyond, can run up and down all game (aerobic capacity), great blend of attack and defend, excellent kick and decision maker, takes the hits.

Loving Daniel’s game since ‘22.

Him and Lynch our best 2 players at the club right now.

His Run & Carry in the last few years has been outstanding and it continued on last night, such an important link player in this team now. Deceptively good over head for his size and shows great courage when under the ball, which I must say, I never expected to see in his game. His tackling and chase has improved 10 fold and his general field kicking is pretty to watch. Thought he should have won the B&F last year, but if he keeps up that form from last night, pencil him in for the '23 Jack Dyer right now !

Keep it up Danny Boy, your a pleasure to watch.

Daniel Smith. The Prince. The blue-collar blue-blood.

I'm not usually one for I told ya so's but I did tell yas so years ago that he would make an awesome HBF. The best running defender in the game.
