By the ned of his career Dan could be the Rioli that has the best/longest Career
Hard to comprehend how consistently talented these Rioli blokes are. Maurice, Dean, Cyril, Daniel, Willie, Maurice Jnr and there's others that never even transitioned to VFL / AFL level that were also bloody good players.
Just quietly very pleased that we've managed to have three of them at Tigerland.

Add to that any Boys Dan may have are going to be Tigers as well.

Same goes for any lads that might be sired by Shai, and of course there are Marlions little guys too.

2022/23 NTFLW R3 Father-Daughter Focus: Maria Rioli (Tiwi Bombers)

RICHMOND father-daughter selection Maria Rioli is one of a few exciting club-aligned players heading into 2023, the 2005-born midfielder running around for Tiwi Bombers in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL). The former St Mary’s player burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old a few years back playing in the All-Stars game, and while she has been focusing on playing in the Northern Territory, her top-age year has now come around.

For Richmond fans, the sheer mention of the name ‘Rioli’ is likely to excite as possibilities come to mind, though Maria is one who still has a long way to go. Her natural football talent and X-factor is undoubted, but her consistency and endurance in particular still has a way to go to be able to take that next step. One thing that is guaranteed is that whenever she goes near the ball, she can make things happen, and has high-level football smarts reminiscent of her late father Maurice Sr, and older brother Maurice Jr.

Rioli has quite the highlights package over the years, which included slotting seven of her state’s nine goals in a 54-point win over ACT back in 2019. Twelve months later, she ran out against far older players in the 2020 NT All-Stars match where recent Hawthorn draftee Dominique Carbone was best on ground. Since then, Rioli has only played the seven games over the past three seasons, stringing the last three of them together so far this season since crossing from the Saints to the newly formed Bombers.

MARIA RIOLI (Tiwi Bombers)

DOB:
06/03/2005
Position: Midfielder
Strengths: Clean hands, acceleration, versatility, game sense
Improvements: Endurance, consistency

They make me cry, tears of joy :) I feel like I have to go to Melville Island and thank them all for the absolute enjoyment that family name has given me since 1980, just amazing what they've all been able to achieve. And don't think it's stopping for quite a well aye, at least hope not!! :eyes

Six family members have played in the Australian Football League (AFL), with a further five playing in the West Australian Football League for South Fremantle.

Many more family members have played for the Tiwi Bombers or St Mary's in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) and the Northern Territory Thunder in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL).

Nineteen members of the family have played a combined total of more than 1000 games for St Mary's.

Maurice 1980-1983 reminds me of someone else's 4 year individual campaign ;)

1980 - Simpson Medal (BOG W.A. Grand FInal)
1981 - Simpson Medal (BOG W.A. Grand FInal)
1982 - Norm Smith Medal (BOG VFL Grand FInal)

That's correct - 3 BOG's in 3 Consecutive Grand Finals' :eyes

1982 - Jack Dyer Medal
1983 - BOG State of Origin - W.A. v Vic
1983 - Jack Dyer Medal
1983 - 2nd Brownlow Medal
1983 - VFL Team of The Year
1983 - All-Australian Team

I know I shouldn't say it in this thread but can't help myself. I don't understand how people can read this stuff and be a no to things like the Voice. These great people have such potential and we should be doing everything we can as a country to unlock it.

U have to say it, it's 100% right!! :eyes Luv the 'such potential and we should be doing everything we can as a country to unlock it".

Sadly, we kind of have that American view dating back over a century, they're only here to entertain us and not contribute in other facets of life. We just want them to shut up and play NFL, NBA, AFL or sing and dance for us, then repeat play. And don't worry about social sciences or anything of value, we'll look after that :sneaky:

I reckon some of the smartest people we miss out on, like in America they nearly missed the talent of Michael Eric Dyson, Neil DeGrasse Tyson to name a couple, look what we're missing out on here

I see it a little differently. The beauty of footy is that we can get away from sex, religion and politics if we choose. I obviously agree with the sentiments here but we all differ in our views and I love the idea of keeping sport as an escape. Often sportspeople making various stands leads to division even among supporters of the same team. There are enough forums around to express a range of views without taking it to the footy. I don’t like some of the labelled rounds for the same reasons.

So you would maybe believe the world of sport was wrong to exclude South Africa from competing for 20+ years because of their apartheid policies?

When racism, sexism or homophobia (for example) are evident in sport, we never hear the cries of "keep politics out of sport", but when sport is used to promote equality it suddenly a bad thing? (am I not sure when promoting equality became political?)

Well said.

This was the sort of point I was leading to with my post above. I guess we could look at things a certain way and say equality is a political position favoured by a certain side of politics and eschewed by the other side.

I think it boils down to this…if we want to keep other people’s politics out of sport, then we have to keep our own politics out of sport. But if we had to choose one political doctrine to be followed in sport, surely we are choosing the middle grounds of equality, acceptance and inclusion over any alternative.

Looking at my own political views - like most people’s adopted from my parents and immediate environment, mainly leftish ideals but with a fair dose of intolerance and ridicule of differences thrown in there. Sport has done a lot to correct some of my previously held views that I can now see were both wrong and unfair.

If AFL policy becomes the moral barometer of our society we are in big trouble...
