Welcome to the Tigers - Connor Menadue

Showing more than Cellis, which isn't saying much.

I'd give him another game, mainly because we don't have a lot of other players pressing for selection. Definitely needs to pull his finger out though. Think he has the talent but his time to show it is right now.

Tick tock.

Reckon he will get badly shown up against the Pies.

He’s not hard enough evo.

yeh, he's a bit of a short stepper/ witness type at times.

Last chance against the Pies. Needs to hit the contest harder and work his arse off.

I'd be surprised if he held his spot for the Pies game.

Would rather Lloyd played. At least he can finish around goal.

Yeah much rather Lloyd than Menadue. And Lloyd is not the answer either.

As I said, sink or swim time. Has had an opportunity to adjust to the pace, now gets thrown in the deep end.

For someone who is a speedster he doesnt even use his pace when chasing, Corey Ellis doesnt have any so cant chase.

Should be able to do what Tom Phillips does, who is not physical. But Menadue does not have the GPS stats i dont think

The big difference is that Tom Phillips can find the pill. Menadue couldn't get near it in a game we dominated against a *smile* team.

Phillips like many good wingmen are some of the smartest players going around. They just know where to run. Grigg (for all his lack of pace) is a good example of this. He just knows where to go on the ground to get the ball. Menadue does not have that trait.

Good point Kev. Hard to coach footy smarts.

I saw a passage where Rioli was behind Menadue, and Rioli sped past him to push the kicker, and affect the kick.

Delist.

did nothing against a team he could of done something against. you'd think fringe guys like he, Cellis, Bolton would go hard to prove a point, but maybe they just don't cut it?

You see passages of play like that 123 and just wonder whether the kid has the desire, will for the contest.

If often can occur with some senior players but they have credits in the bank.

Players such as Menadue , CEllis & Bolton have played minimal games yet a first year player such as Higgins shows them!
Even a player who missed a pre season last and came in towards the end in Graham has shown more.

I can recall that play and was calling out for Menadue to use his renown pace but Rioli came from 3 rows back to apply the pressure.
Even in the song it lacked anything. I'm just nit picking here but it's the little you notice.

You find it hard pressed to mount a case for CEllis, Menadue & Bolton to remain on the list if by years out something doesn't click.
Heck even a player ( sorry NSWTiger ) Townsend with less ability did his thing last year and became a premiership player.

It's not too late for them.
Jury out?

When players have to be shown to chase (Menadue) or told to chase (Bolton) or can't chase (CEllis/Stengle) then they are going to have problems at the end of the year. Townsend has less natural athleticism and in all honesty talent than any of that lot but with Townsend he is lining up the tackle and then hits at full pace. He wants to impact the contest Menadue seems not to want to be part of the contest. Either he doesn't know how or he lacks physical confidence as everyone is all a bit too big and it is scary being hit by a mac truck (e.g. Graham) which by the way is completely true and understandable. Looking hard for Menadue and CEllis. Bolton gets another year due to his ability.

Another meh game from Connor. I'm not sure it's going to happen. Like CEllis, that step up is looking too great.
I think they both suffer from belief, it appears when there at VFL level and there “ the man” they deliver, however when they are surrounded by Dusty an Co they both seem to suffer a bit of stage fright and it seems they nearly don’t want to get in the way, yep there only 21 I just don’t think they have the mind set and arrogant type attitude you need to make it at the top level, I’m not sure I’d give them another year but if they do they really need to take a leaf out of Shorts book

re development of juniors

people doubting whether cellis and menadue are developing into afl players

it does seem strange that we have had no one step up from the vfl to afl this year

recently we have had several players step up after a lengthy vfl development stint: grimes, butler, castagna, kmac, lambert, broad, astbury,

i guess short is the last one yet he played a lot of afl last year

Menadue at least has something that CELLIS never did

The tools

Pace Pace Pace
I reckon pace is the only thing he has on Ellis nik, his pure outside, unfortunately I don’t think either have the *smile* that’s needed to be part of a successful AFL team.
