Welcome to the Tigers - Connor Menadue

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

Should have let FJ draft Connor Blakely like he wanted to!

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

Getting to the end of a hard slog for some of these boys. Skinny first year kid wouldn't surprise me if he drops off a bit in the last few rounds.

No doubt. Gone from playing against skinny kids his own age n size to playing against bigger n harder men for most of the year. Extra training loads n all the tactical n structural stuff would be starting to weigh down at this time of year for plenty of the youngsters at all clubs.
It was said when we went for him at the draft that he was a project n there'd be three years to be put into him, yet he's already had a taste of senior footy.

Connor Menadue (Four disposals)
Struggled to find the ball at half-back. Was moved to a wing in a bid to get him more involved in the match, but still couldn’t exert an influence. We expect better from him, and it will be a focus at training during the week to work out how we can improve his involvement in the contest.

Worry a little that some of these younger players are getting a little dispirited in the VFL.

It's year one and I don't think the boy Menadue has done enough at VFL level to have any right to feel dispirited. He's had some great games & moments but he isn't ripping the VFL apart. Needs to earn games. It's a been a long year, fading out isn't a bad sign at all.

You serious? Who overruled who? The draft video suggested otherwise.

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

Yep I'm serious. FJ really liked the boy from Swan Districts

Rightly so, he'll be a very good player. But I prefer the combo of Ellis/Menadue to Ellis/Blakely

hear hear!

Menadue will be a gun in a few years!

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

He was part of the change of direction team that took on Collingwood and won that also turned our season around, would have been awesome expirence for him. No doubt Patience is the key

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

Young fella's get tired, especially kids who are skinny and are trying to improve their footy whilst also trying to build their body whilst also trying to recover week to week.

I think we saw enough this year to know that he will be a solid long term player. Put him to pasture, feed him heaps of red meat and get him ready for next year.

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

I've been watching Connor quite closely and he will be a ripper. At the moment mostly cameos but his ability to do quite extraordinary clean things - evasion, pick ups, targetting a man in space when under some pressure is quite impressive.

Still gets lost on occassions and still does the old junior footy thing rather than the hard nosed stuff.

I noticed he seems to have added some strength. I'd say he might be ready for an extended run in the firsts after another pre season.

His kicking and pace are first class.

I attach a clip of VFL highlights of round 15, Connor is involved in the scoring chains of Beanie's first two goals, but have a look at his goal in the third about 1 minute 10 seconds in. He gets a scrappy handball from Conca and a touch here and a side step there followed by a left foot snap - quality goal out of less than half a chance.

First I ever heard of that, although there was significant discussion when our pick went live. Out of curiosity who made the call?

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

I'm a big fan of Blakely he is going to be a very good player, he was my pick last year. Having said that i think Menadue on type was probably the correct selection.

What about Weller/Blakely?

Blair was most vocal agitating for Menadue. FJ said "that's how we rate them, that's how we go", so clearly the group collectively rated Menadue higher.

I'm happy with our two. Weller looks a nice link type but Ellis looks special and I reckon Menadue might be too. If he wasn't so skinny he would have gone a lot earlier.

Just looking at the 2014 draft, i reckon the Dockers have done very, very well with Weller at 13, Blakely at 34 and Langdon at 54.

Re: Welcome to the Tiggers - Connor Menadue

Will be interesting to see how they go at Freo though. Rossy is notorious for favouring experience over youth.
