Welcome Liam Baker

Would need to absolutely nail the draft selection, and hope its a decent draft, to get a comparable player (after 5 years experience) in the mid-first round. 2 firsts or keep.

No doubt I could be wrong. But I don’t believe Bakes will leave.

So hold off on the hypothetical picks or players we might get. Wait until a decision is made.
I reckon he’s staying.

He’s certainly playing like a bloke who looks like he loves the club

The thing with Bakes, I don't think he has a secondary gear. He's either not playing or going full throttle. Even if he was told to maybe take it a bit easier by his manager, he doesn't strike me as the guy that could do that. Once he crosses the line he puts everything on the line every time he plays, so I'm not sure how he plays is going to give us any indication of his plans.

Im sure he does love the club. A lot. He might just like money or the idea of living in Perth a little more.

He certainly did his value no harm on Saturday night.

I have the same feeling, he loves this club. Was given the chance, he took it, has 2 premierships, developed into a good leader and maybe a captain for the future.

Love you Bakes!

I reckon that's the main reason he will leave. 2 flags in 5 year career is more than any player would get. Probably liked growing/playing under Dimma rather than under a new coach who's just started. Playing back home is always a great feeling.
Short was his housemate (and best mate) but now moved out with his girl leaving Bakes on his own and (I think) sharing with a kid.

Got a terrible feeling Dan would do the same.

It is one of those situations that all parties are in a win win situation if he stays we win and Bakes wins a good contract.

If he goes and is offered an even better contract we get pick 3/4 (compensation) and 200 + game A grade midfielder

The team he goes to (most likely WC) gets a great player and leader for no picks.

WINS for everyone.

P.S I hope he stays.

We can springboard back into contention if the likes of Baker Bolton Rioli stay and are motivated. If they leave it may be a long stay near the bottom. Key to developing young players is having a good senior core leading the way. Otherwise we'll become North.

He's not a free agent.

He's not a free agent.
Isn’t he out of contract? If so he’s been at the club for 7 years (first season 2018) then he would at least be a restricted free agent wouldn’t he? I think 6 years is the qualifying period isn’t it?

8 years

I thought they changed it a few years ago. Used to be 8 years restricted 10 years unrestricted. Then it changed to 6 and 8 respectively?

Edit. Just had a look and it appears both forms of FA require 8 years of service. Pretty sure UFA initially required 10 years service. Now it seems only difference between RFA and UFA is that an RFA is a player in top 25% earners at the club.

Regardless Bakes will need a trade if he wants to go. Hopefully he doesn’t but if he does the club needs to drive a hard bargain. We will require more than ample compensation for a player of his calibre. First round pick absolute minimum. And if the offers being reported are true it’s worthy of a top 10 pick.

Some players just love their club and want a one club AFL career. I am hoping Bakes is one of those

I think he will leave as he purchased a 2.2mil home in WA. Surely he’s not going to be renting it out.

Why not? Good investment. $2mill buys you an average size home on say North Beach in Perth. Gale was confident he will be retained. We'll just have to wait and see but my impression of Baker is someone who would relish the challenge of nurturing and moulding the next batch of young players at the Tigers.

It’s 50:50 and like me you’re having an each way bet. I personally think he’ll go , but I’m hoping you’re right. I wouldn’t take Gale to seriously as it’s obvious he will say this and not the contrary to the public , as like us he wants him to stay. Money talks , *smile* walks in the end.
