All good TR no offence taken but that's just making excuses mate, need to call it how he played, and it wasn't good. Dropped marks, slipping over, wrong decisions this is a final. Yes, he's young but so are others. No one mentioned perfection just expected much better than what he trotted out. Deer in headlights.

The reality is he was our best available Tall Defender after Tarrant, given that Grimes is on the sidelines.
Criticism should be directed at list management and drafting that we have to play a first-year KPD in an Elimination Final.
When Jack retires, we will have the same challenge up forward.

Spot on. I really liked his first half of the season; hopefully he can build on that and be a great player for us.
But he was terrible last night. Dropped marks, fumbles, slipped over all the time, turnovers, less than emphatic spoils and timid tackling efforts. Looked completely overawed by the occasion. He really shouldn't have been playing; his form in the second half of the year was not very good.
He needs to have a massive off season, work on his deficiencies but more importantly look at what made him such a good player in the first half of the season and gain confidence that he can be a really good AFL defender. I think he's got the tools but just needs to believe.
I don't think anyone has been harsh, he didn't stand up in a final at 19. People are pointing it out, that's all.
No one is writing him off.
He is 19 and 3 pre-seasons away from being one of the dominant backs in the league.

The thing about the dropped marks. He's swallowed them all his life. But he's never been smashed by men in marking contests before. He's dropping them because he's tensing up expecting contact. Elbows, knees, shoulders coming for his exposed, slender ribcage. But he's getting clean hands to the ball because he reads it and soars higher than everyone else. He's going to be an intercept marking beast once he's confident at the level.
He did a brilliant spoil and cat-like recovery in the first quarter on the wing right in front of us. Roved his own ball. Brilliant. Will be a weapon. Lock him in.

Most first year talls would struggle under finals pressure, Gibcus has exceeded my expectations this year, he's the least of our worries.
The only other 1st year tall who will play this weekend is Darcy. There may be 1 or 2 2nd year talls. And the wunderkid De Konning, who is over 2 years older than Gibcus is a 3rd year player. Not many young talls get the chance to make mistakes in finals.
In the cold light of day his mistakes arguably cost us the match. He was not alone but he really looked very shaky.
Not saying he doesn't have huge upside but not sure he has been managed that well the second half of the year. Perhaps too much asked of him. You'd hope the experience will be worth it in the long run but we've fumbled a great opportunity in 2022.
Not the only one with butterfingers last night but he did drop a few clangers that hurt us. Still, it is now in the past and we have next season to look forward to where Josh and other cubs will progress after another preseason. I reckon our future is bright
Great opportunities for our very young players, experience invaluable for the future. I think the right blend of youth, mid youngster and older players is a good formula for continued growth. 2 games will lose Dion (geelong and last night) we only just get beaten. Was so proud of the way Richmond players played, however, it does highlight the need for one or two experienced midfielders followed by drafting of forwards. I say 2022 was not completely wasted, we made the finals, blooded 7 youngsters ( first year and year 2 or 3). From adversity comes the true rewards, Go Tigers

So was sonz, mj with ball in hand, Miller, baker, short - all jittery. A lack of composure all over the ground I thought but particularly from all the younger players.
You could say that about most of the players if you want to isolate stuff. For example, the spoil and gather I mentioned set up The Prince to lace-out Cumbo, who dropped a sitter 40 metres out. He marks that and kicks the goal we're 2 goals up at quarter time. He drops it, Balta breathes on Hipwood and it's all square.
