Welcome Josh Gibcus

Poor second half of season and terrible tonight - let’s not sugarcoat it. Big pre-season ahead. Huge summer in gym & needs to become a one touch defender - no more second grab marks, no more fumbling loose balls, no more missed kicks.

Not sure you can be super confident with Balta and Gibcus in the backline. They dont have calm heads. Athletic freaks but they *smile* the bed too easily.

He never regained his confidence when he was dropped. The season went about 8 games too long for him.
He lost it before he was dropped. I get wanting to get games into him, but I don’t think he was managed that well.
He was poor tonight, but I don’t remember a first year KPP recently having so much asked of him in his first season

He's gotta learn to spoil toward the boundary. If you're out positioned it's no good having the amazing leap and athletic ability to spoil the ball towards goal, or fly one handed for a mark.

Not a great performance tonight but not sure that we would have done any better with Castagna in the team, considering there isn't really anyone else in the 2's who would be able to replace him.

Reckon he's got what it takes to be an A-grade defender and he'll learn a heap from his first AFL season.

My tip is that he'll skip the 2nd year blues that many players are afflicted with since he's made the mistakes already and will learn from them.

Agree. Once he went back to the resizes he should have been kept there.

Stolen from BoofFooty. Wins a greater percentage of his defensive one-on-ones than Harris Andrews, Ben McKay, Harrison Petty, Brennan Cox, James Sicily, Sam De Koning, Aliir Aliir, Alex Pearce, Robbie Tarrant, Jacob Weitering, Jeremy Howe, Tom Barrass, Luke Ryan. Granted most of them play on the big guns and he's mainly third tall. Still. Not bad for a kid.

This is a great graphic. Not great for Nicky V, that shocked me.

But in his first final, he looked terrified with ball in hand and any contests that had physical contact with the ball in the air.
When he could run and jump at the ball, he was fine. Spoiled aggressively but was very disappointing.

Amazing athlete and talent but needs to believe in himself and sharpen up a lot of rough edges to become a top liner

Give the kid a break. Not many KPP have done as well as the kid in his first season.

Geez made some howlers…. But Was he on Hipwood after half time? Hipwood had 5 touches and no goals in the second half.
Yeah he was. He locked down on him ok, it was just when he had the ball in his hands that everything went to *smile*.

This 1st yer player had both kinds of moment.

There is a tendency on Interwebz to blame the lowest rated player for losses (particularly close losses) and to ignore the disastrous repeated blunders of various captains. (Norfs game!)

Understandable. Nobody wants to blame a successful failure.

FWIW I admire Nank's game. He bungled, and would have improved 50% next week, but he failed. Captain. With no ruck opponent. Killl the ball, captain.

Let's not hang out the 20 gamer child.

Loved what this kid showed this year , still think we didn’t manage him well at all, however his drop off in form may be that extra drive he needs going into his second season , stays fit he’ll have an outstanding second season . Tarrant, Balta, Gibbo should be able to handle any forward line next year.

Wrong boots. He was slipping over even off the ball. Kid with a high centre of gravity needs stable feet. Watch his mistakes and fumbles, more often than not his boots were losing grip.

Agree - it was when he was dropped but also when it was deemed a good idea to send him forward.
I never liked that idea and only ever wanted him to stay in the backline for the whole season and just learn how to play.

In the long term - last night probably won’t matter much - especially if it can be used as a motivation. He should still become a great performer for us in the years to come.
