Welcome Josh Gibcus

When you look at Gosh Jibcus's football IQ it doesn't directly line up with the U19 Jack Riewoldt. U19 jack Riewoldt's IQ was close to AFL leading (any age) when he was a child. Jack Riewoldt is still a genius.

Gosh is maybe only in the top one to ten for IQ U19. It's a big step down from Jr Riewoldt's level. Jibcus is not yet a genius - he's only brilliant.

So being only the smartest or tenth smartest U19 in the game as at practice game 2022, and just scraping in as a freak athlete it's not certain that Gosh Jibcus will be Richmond's #1 back this year. But it won't surprise me if he gets there.

It doesn't matter if he starts R1. But it is crucial that he is blooded and trained for September.

Will debut in round 1 according club site. Start of a very long and successful career.

Likely debuting because of injury, I figure he will spend time in the VFL this year but we'll see how he goes. It is a real balancing act to get new players up to the standard to play AFL but also not leave them languishing in VFL for too long.

Does make me wonder whether Miller will look for greener pastures.

One year after being drafted. I sort of meant straight after being drafted
I thought it would've been Lids and Tambo under Wallace, but found it was Dan Rioli in 2016 from the 2015ND.

This is great news. I hope he backs himself in with his leap and try and not get caught up in a wrestle under the ball.

At least he can spell his own name correctly though

We may see a goal or two gifted whilst he adapts to the speed of it all but very impressive to get the round 1 job. Hope he grabs more than a few intercepts.

Definitely has the competitiveness streak, an elite quality (leap) and a desire to learn. Hopefully has the selflessness / team trait as well.

Doesn’t seem to panic under pressure and looks a good ball user - can’t wait to see him in action on Thursday night.
To my eye he was pretty poor by foot in the practise game against the hawks. But I was putting that as more down to nerves / learning what his teammates do etc than skill/decision making - he did look calm.

Can you imagine making your debut in round 1 in front of 85K at the G? I don't care how good he is, I'm sure he will be doing some nervous poos before the game

Butkus looks like he could have stepped out of 1917. Think Grimes had a similar style at one stage. Bodes well.....
