Welcome Josh Gibcus

I don't think he will play round one unless one of the following are injured ... Grimes, Nick V, Tarrant, Broad and who knows where Balta will line up.

I'm not sure the Gibcus can play round 1 as yet, and I don't think he will especially if Soldo plays and Balta plays.

There could be some movement around the defence however, so who knows.

Balta and Soldo are at the fulcrum of what option they run with.

Noah has spent the pre season forward so its going to be interesting to see what they do with him, he is possibly being groomed to replace JR8 in my opinion and also to help with ruck duties when needed.

Beauty is if we need another big key back for injury he's ready to go.

Baker is out from defence to mid forward, and of course Bash has gone.

Baker is gonna be of high value as a forward mid tough and slippery he might prove a handful and could rotate with Stack Bolton and Sheds.

Tarrant is replacing Dave.

Broad and Grimes can both play small if Noah also plays back, and that's when we were at our best the last few years with these two locking down on all comers tall or small.

Tigga will remain the intercept boss.

Mansell will be around the mix too as a defensive lock down small, but he also has to deal with the fact Grimes and Broad are equally adept playing shutdown roles on smalls as they are on talls.

Rioli and Short willmost likely be the incumbent rebounding smalls along with our wingman and its here another question crops up re Ralphsmith.

With his run and delivery another attacking weapon its obvious the coaches are keen to mesh into the side. It became obvious from the draft the RFC is all about speed and use going forward. .

Ralphy might be pressuring Marlion and Grover for a wing spot but me thinks he's gonna have to show more hardness in his game as that's where he got shown up most. Kingsley alluded to that fact in his pre season snippet vid.

If Hugo hits contests harder in the upcoming pre season games he will likely get very close to round 1 selection.

Graham and Lamberts availability for round 1 are going to be pivotal to the make up.

Will be interesting to see which way the club goes with the kids over the next few weeks in the lead up.

Key takeaway from the above is that McQualter expects them to work in tandem moving forward.
Next weeks practice game against Geelong will tell us more about the match committee’s intentions than anything else.

Dwayne Russell has declared both Gibcus and Sonsie play R1...... extremely effusive about our intra club. Possibly a little bit overly so I thought.

Having a captain who is a ruckman must be dispiriting for the other rucks on the list. He’s not going to miss a game regardless of form or ability. We suddenly look locked in to going very tall or dropping a player. Can you play lynch, reiwold, balta, soldo, nanks, Tarrant, grimes, gibcus all in the same team?

Edit - without drastically altering our game plan?
We have two co-captains so it doesn't necessarily mean one being dropped for being out of from as we will still have a captain on field - hopefully

I reckon we need to see the intra club games and see what real competition is about before we can say who is in for Round 1. That said I liked what I saw of Gibcus and Sonsie in the SIM as they are definitely a good part of our future

Another promising game today, is not looking out of place, which is a credit to him.

If Balta stays forward then it almost has to be be Gibcus in Round 1

It‘s a big ask to expect him to start the season - but if the backline in general and particularly the taller blokes (Grimes, Tarrant, Broad) stand up and allow him to ease into the season - it could be a great thing. And more so if Vlas comes back quickly.

He has a first gamer's body, but a 200 gamer's composure.

I also saw some Grimesish tenacity. And a young Jack's leap?

Excited.

Agreed no better time to get 15-20 games into him than now, he's got some bloody good players to learn from and help cover him
