Who has gone walkabout? Tambling didn't. Muprhy didn't. JON didn't. Petterson, Roberts and Gilligan might have had problems with professionalism (diet and drink) but none absented themselves. The only player who went missing was Taylor and he was a known risk from day 1 with pre-existing criminal conviction (and jail time) and a further trial to face - not to mention having walked out on other junior teams.

All Manson has done is accept an invite to come down to Perth for a few weeks and not agree to stay on longer. Perfectly understandable when you have nowhere to live, no job, no means of support in Perth.

Some pretty lazy stereotypes in this thread.

Geez how'd you get that out of my post? I wasn't just talking about the Tigers. And I wasn't just talking about indigenous players. I was talking generally I think you take a big risk when a player so early on is doing the undisciplined and immature things such as has been mentioned.

Apart from this guy are there any other indigenous kids who we may look at either in the ND or as a rookie ?

Murray Newman is a good prospect. Would have to take him at 26 though.

Gibson Turner is the other I like. Bit of confusion as to whether he is available to GWS as he played for NT but played his club footy in SA.

Golden rule in life - never trust anyone whose name comprises 2 first names. Countless examples - Nick Daffy, Wayne Campbell, Cameron Bruce, Lance Franklin.

Double the trouble again if the second name is a girl's name eg Colin Sylvia.

There will of course always be exceptions eg Chris Newman.

Back to thread, stay away from raw indigenous players straight out of the bush, very rarely do these guys settle and play consistent footy, it's different for guys like rioli who go to school in the city and have time to adapt and it's also easier in Perth.
Stay with local boys who followed the afl pathway and have a better chance for settling and adapting to afl life In Melbourne.
Stick with footballers not athletes and solid citizens or potential captains not x factor freaks..... iMO

fair opinion. & good spelling.

i disagree only to the point that i think it is worth spending late/rookie picks on guys with heaps of talent but other concerns. 1 or 2 at a time.

100% Agree!
After what's happened before with our track record.

I'd grab Louis Egger from the NT late if he was available.

Doubt that will be the case though.

Have you seen him play Tigs?

People seem to be talking him up since the West said he was in the Eagles sights. I'm not convinced. Saw him play twice last year, and he didn't look all that handy to me.

Footballers like Pattison, Polo, Farmer and Hislop you mean? Or solid citizens like Tambling or Jackson? Stick with solid citizens and skip taking Dustin Martin do we?

The footballer v athlete debate is complete nonsense. Judd is a an off the scale athlete, as is Ablett, as is Rioli - but when a players turns out well he gets called a 'footballer'. When a guy turns out badly he gets classed as an athlete.

Nah. All those players are footballers first. Being an athlete is an added bonus. You can still play AFL footy if you have good footy skills, you'll rarely get there if you have elite athletic ability but little footy nouse. Obviously a higher percentage of the best footballers are great athletes and footballers.

agree with that too.
athletes are guys like Gourdis and Sibsado (sp??). NicNat is probably an exception to this.
