Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

For the record the frees were 23 to 17. Tigers 17.
And we had four 50 metre penalties to boot.
The simple answer to the stand rule is to get rid of it altogether, but that won't happen under the current administration.
It was only introduced by Shocking to enable the Pussies to win a flag.
It’s a mystery isn’t it? We all know the people at afl headquarters making all the rule changes are all simple minded simpletons, so making the simple decisions should come naturally. But no, they always go for the most complex convoluted “ solutions “

It's also a matter of where we get free kicks when we actually get them. Lynch gets smashed from pillar to post & can barely buy a free near goal.
TBR has explain why thats the case before - Umps have a clear bias towards Jack and Tommy and its the palyers own fault so just accept it.

No, the umpire was right. Clearly you, and many on here, do not understand the rules. TBR will come along to explain why it was a free shortly.

I understand this is a shocking revelation to most football supporters, but umpires do make mistakes you know.

The players can come out and use the ball like district players and 'the boys are a bit rusty', umpires make a mistake and it's 'clear bias' or worse.

On rewatching the game early in Q1 Cumberland takes a mark and Petty comes in late and drops his elbow in Cumbo's back while he is lying on the ground. Not much force but totally unnecessary like Cotch's. These should be considered the same. Nothing in either but the media beat up is *smile*.
I have it on video but appears I am unable to load it here.

Also Harmes contributed to the ‘wrestle’. Don’t think Cumbo did

Not only is that complete dribble, I don't even think it makes sense.
Yes you could possibly be right considering Reddog was the only other person who seemed to understand it...however you are on record stating that Lynch and Jack's previous on field behavours have influenced how they are now umpired.

To a very small degree, they might miss one occasionally and Riewoldt much more than Lynch.

But if you do stuff like this you can't really complain if the umpire is reluctant to give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a push in the back.

2013 give me a break!

Two issues I repeat each year; Umpires need to become full time professional with significant remuneration not the current zealot amateurs. Richmond needs to actively train against giving undisciplined, crude and stupid frees (world leaders in 50m penalties).

Jack goes alright compared to some other tall forwards below.
At least he's around the zero mark for 'frees for/frees against' with -9 the difference.
Buddy o_O Walker, Hawkins, Cameron, Daniher, Lynch will all end up, most with massive negative free kick splits.
Jack could get 9 more than against this year and get to a career 'frees for/ frees against' at a 0 plus/minus :)

Think you have made a mistake with your stats there RM, because I have it on good authority that Lynch/Riewoldt NEVER get the frees other forwards do. ;)

Agree with your second sentence. Balta, in particular gave away a shocking 50 before half time in a hissy fit which should have had him dragged for a very big please explain.

Disagree with your first. To me it’s the same argument that all those execs at Aussie post got big bonuses because you must incentivise by paying bonuses. We won’t worry about the financial performance of Aussie post. A bonus is a bonus.

There are now 4 umpires out there. Not one or 2 but 4. AFL umpires salaries ranged from $120k to $130k supposedly in 2022. So, we could be spending $big bucks just to umpire a single match. Across the competition that is, As we are paying 36 field umpires every week. And. They have other jobs as well. I think the pay is quite tasty for a part time job, albeit with the public scrutiny that comes with being an AFL umpire.

Pay should be considered relative to performance. If an umpire is a beauty, then pay the man/lady involved. If h/she is good enough maybe they can become full time. But we don’t dumb it down and pay everyone enough to be full time when the actual performance doesn’t justify it.
