Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

We usually get very few frees. That wasn’t the case tonight.

But what was usual, was the amount of stupid frees we gave away. It’s a huge problem with this team.
Nank the worst offender. He does so much dumb stuff.

Spot on. He’s our number one offender. I expect he’ll give a few away in the ruck, but he gives too many away and then others in non ruck situations.

Love the Tank but it’s a glaring issue.

They should rename the league UFL umpires football league considering how dominant a force they are on the field.

Yep would be worth the fine. I’ll chip in.
Pity that the clubs(all clubs)hands are tied.
Dimma says anything. The club gets fined and minus whatever the fine is in next years soft cap which could mean someones job.
AFL have designed to muzzle clubs in pretty much the sameway the players are now being muzzled by the decent rule.

The umpires were too scared to award the 50 in front of the Sydney home fans.

Razor Ray would have paid it. He lives for that type of scenario. Making a call that changes the result of a game and has the footy world talking about him for days. He wouldn’t have been able to help himself

It's amazing how the free kick count mirrors the flow of the game. The game is simply over Umpired 40 frees would have been still too many they need to put the whistle away and pay the obvious. Personally i don't watch football to watch the umpires show they are far too prominent and are the biggest influence on the football field. Drop all these tiggy Touchwood rules and interpretations and let two side go at it. Most of all dont bring in new rules or change rules to have the game played how the AFL wants it that is entering WWE territory

I have no issue with richmonds treatment last night.

at the siren, the umps employed a feel-for-the-game.

Swans wernt wasting time, there was no time to waste.

So the umps made the rule subordinate to common sense.

Bravo, i say.

Why dont they do this for DOB in your own forward 50?

Or when you come within mm's of mark of the year, why dont they go 'that was actually pretty realistic'

Or when nobody gets hurt by a dangerous tackle

Or when prohibited contact is the same harmless feature of the game its been for 100 years

Or when a bloke ducks into a high tackle

Or when a bloke is wondering where the mark is, so he can stand

Or when dissent was a shrug of the shoulders

Or when they reveiw a score when every single person knows what the score was?

stick your common sense, your feel for the game, your pub test, your logic,

Right up Gils arse.

He appointed hocking and scott,

This is on him.

Hes completely ruined what used to be the best game in the world.

I thought I heard the ump talk to someone for advice on his mike. Which means he asked for outside opinion. Which also means that they are basically puppets. So that means results can be orchestrated. But that would be paranoid wouldn't it. For all the free kicks given they could have given five in the last two minutes when the Sydney players jumped on the ball. But the worst decision all night was the free kick for the first goal of the night.

Yes they asked for advice from 3rd umpire. First goal from free was a jumper pull. You could clearly see it. Umps pay that every time. About the only thing they're consistent at.

Don't worry about the 50 at the end
How about the 50 missed when Franklin run over the mark to Gibcus?
The swans player using Baker as surf board?
Rioli get held and push in the middle of the back.
They we OK in the first half. They paid holding the ball to swans players that we usually don't get but after half time.
Anything we did wrong They were onto it.
They didn't miss anything in the 2nd half.
McCartin pushed Jack out of contest, play on for only 40 seconds later Reid gets one at the other end..its really sad

61 free kicks = a free kick every 2 minutes.

It's getting to the point that our games are unwatchable.

It's a crap game to watch now.

Umpire asked for advice on his mic.

Wanted to pay 50 then asked for advice.

yeah, common sense can never be used as justification for anything because it can't be measured. Our common sense is very different to Hockings.

This sums up why, its elastic, you can use it selectively anytime you want, and it gets compounded, not reduced, by these ham fisted rushed-in rules.

A player backing away from the mark gets 50 paid against? That is the opposite of common sense. It defies the logic and spirit of the game, the line of scrimmage that exists in every football code. The player on the mark is giving the player with the ball more ground, but a 50 against? Defies common sense.

Arms-out being 50 metres regardless of if it has zero aggression and is just confusion, which most are, or if its genuine aggression and dissent. This rule wasn't needed, created problems where there were none. Umps have always been able to pay a 50 or a free for dissent, arms-out or not. Why put the blanket arms-out rule in? Just pay a free or 50 if there is genuine dissent. Defies common sense.

The AFL routinely do the opposite of common sense, then they use common sense as a defence when it suits. Corrupt hillbillies.
