The other week i saw that when richmond go through the door to go out on to the ground, there is a sighn above the door that the players touch before they go out on to the ground. To my way of thinking they sould have a picture of Tyler to show the team what guts and determination is.I could not think of one more inspiring person than Tyler and his family. I would have bet that the team would just about run through brick walls and that is the attitude we need at the moment, this little boy is the most inspiring person i wish i could meet :clap :clap

Good stuff nackers. Tyler is certainly an inspirational litle boy.

I got a letter from Guide Dogs Vic recently and it had a story about Tyler and his 'Pets as Therapy' dog Dallas. It's a lovely heart warming story with beautiful photos and I couldn't resist sending a donation towards the program.

I love my dogs to pieces and can't imagine life without them so can understand how important Dallas would be to Tyler when she's his eyes and guardian as well as an inseperable friend.

Nackers' post is a timely opportunity to let others know of the Pets as Therapy program and post contact details in case anyone else would like to make a donation.

God i hope not this little boy has been through enough, the same as Sophie . If there is a god please show these kids a bit of mercy. I hate to hear these things happening to children,i know if anything happend like tis to one of my 4 kids ,iwould struggle to cope.I suppose its how strong you are and how strong you are for your kids. That is why i think it would be an inspiration for our players to realise how lucky they are and how guttsy these two kids are :clap :clap

This Young man is just pure inspiration.

Put's a tear in your eye every time you see his courage an makes you proud to be a tiger like Tyler

Whatever challenges next await this little angel he can tackle with unwavering power. He epitomises courage and is a true inspiration to us all. These kids are incredibly special and have so much to teach us. Sophie is another great example. :hearton

Fantastic idea Nackers and I hope the RFC take this on. Touch the heart.

I totally agree. Pets as Therapy is an outstanding program. So too is doggy rescue where you can foster a dog and get him back into shape for adoption and save him from the lethal injection, or just volunteer as a walker/carer to look after these little guys once a week before they're adopted out.

(feel free to move this to GS Rosy/Jools).

I think this little fella has the love and support of the whole Richmond family members and suporters alike i will make inquiries to donate to his pets charity or foundation. I just think this kid is guts personified :)

Heard on the radio today that Tylers $10k payment from the government has not been passed onto other similar families, and Centerlink has been advised to stop handing out forms to allow people to claim the money.

Tyler's mum then got on air and said that its a joke, and that she didn't fight the system just for her, and basically accused the government of trying to buy her silence.

Given they have the cash you would figure they would shut up and stop rocking the boat, but this family is incredible. How they can be more worried about others than themselves after what they have gone through amazes me.

I'm just proud to say I barrack for Tyler's team :cutelaugh

God bless this wonderfully courageous little chap.

I never fail to achieve instant sobriety and a reflective state every time i see or hear about this little tiger.

This boy is a hero of mine ..................... and should be a hero to the tiger players.

Best Wishes Tyler you little tiger champ.

Despite the trepidation you must be so proud Brad and Georgette. Have fun at school Tyler. Eat 'em Alive. ;D

Bravest little battler Tyler set for first day at school

HIS smile says it all. Tyler Fishlock can't wait for his next challenge -- starting school.

Tyler touched the hearts of Victorians when his battle against a rare eye cancer was revealed. It cost him the sight of both eyes. Now, with almost 45,000 other five-year-olds, the little dynamo is set for his prep year at a mainstream school.

No back-to-school blues for Tyler -- simply unbridled joy.

As the youngster packed and unpacked his schoolbag, he beamed: "I'm a big boy now."

He said he could not wait to sample the canteen's gingerbread men, meet new friends and play with cars and trucks -- a favourite pastime.

But Tyler's not setting off with just a backpack and lunch -- he needs a full-time personal aide, different teaching methods and textbooks and work sheets translated into braille.

The mother of the brave boy, who had both eyes removed during his battle with retinoblastoma, said she was praying he would be all right. And Georgette Fishlock told of the difficulty of deciding to send Tyler to a mainstream school.

"We want him to be able to live as normal a life as possible. I hope this is the first step towards doing that," she said.

"But I'm very apprehensive. I am excited, but for (father) Brad and I, the nerves are about whether we're doing the right thing sending him to a mainstream school. "The biggest concern is will he be accepted by the school and students and whether or not he will accept them."

Mrs Fishlock admitted waving goodbye at the school gates would be the hardest part.

"I don't think I'll get a wave back and that will be hard," she said. "I've prepared him and explained I won't be there all day."

Tyler could not understand what the fuss was about.

"Mum, I'll miss you, but I'll see you after school," he said.

It's that optimism that reassured Mrs Fishlock about her decision. "He is my inspiration and he will inspire me to get through the first day," she said. "He has such a positive outlook on life. His disability doesn't even bother him."

Tyler has been going to school with guide dogs, familiarising himself with the school's surrounds and doing homework on his braille computer.

Mrs Fishlock once feared the day would not come.

"This is a huge milestone for Tyler and I couldn't be more proud of him,"she said.

That story brought tears to my eyes. The challenges that Tyler and his family face in the coming years means my day to day concerns pale into insignificance. The bravery of children astounds me at times. Have a fabulous time at school Tyler, I imagine you will make many friends and enjoy the challenges that lie ahead. You are a child spun of rare and precious cloth.

What an amazing and truely inspirational kid. Next time anyone wants to complain about having a cold, spare a thought for this young man.

Let's hope the tigers finally give him something to cheer about from a footy perspective. :clap

God Bless this dear little fella.

As courageous as they come and a real character that sobers me.

Good luck and best wishes Tyler. 8)
