Trent Cotchin (Merged)

I love the man. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who has given more on and off the field. But it's getting sad watching him now.

Absolute legend, but must be repurposed if he’s to stay on, liability around the ball at the moment. Would much rather see Dow played in the centre at this point of their respective careers.

Well, I won’t begrudge the great Chimpa going around again next year but he’ll only be a bit part contributor. Reality check for a few posters on this thread through the year who think that he’s still the player he was. He’s not.

One more year for the fabulous Chimpa and that’s it.
I'm honestly not sure he's got another year in him. What's he got to prove? Nothing.

I think we all know where the Chimp is at. Unless he's hiding something, it's time to put the kazoo away.
We don't need to keep bashing the guy though. I think he's earned enough credits to play out this season and make his own call.

Simply cannot influence a game any longer. Retire as a triple premiership captain and Brownlow medallist, wait for your aFl hall of fame and RFC legend acknowledgement. Shadow of his best.

Too much being asked in the absence of Prestia/Lambert/Edwards. If we get the team back together I can see him continuing. But he's not able to play 1 or 2 mid anymore.

If he chooses to play on, he has to be given a different role. High half forward & create the pressure we’ve lost inside forward 50. Can’t cut it as a midfielder unless he’s a negative tag.

Our 30 year olds look 50.
Barely wins the ball when he is in the middle.
Either he calls it or the club needs to do it for him.
He's only 30, so you think he still has 2-3 decent years left.
But playing like he needs a hip replacement.

Im quite astonished at this Cotchys finished narrative.

astonished.

17 games ago, Danger took Vlastuin, and so Cotchy took Ablett,

possibly the most important act in our 2020 premiership.

this, after leading the club to the most difficult premiership in history

and 17 games later, Hes played a couple of ordinary games, and the knives come out.

extraordinary.

fair weather friends are the loneliest friends.

Our captains time will come, but its not now.

no way get *smile* *smile* off.

Are you watching? The guy is running like he's stuck in the bog down in the valley-o, when the vast majority of others look like they're skating effortlessly on ice.

Sure, he could play on. But he'll be remembered as a beaten mortal, not the fearless, brutal attack Tiger he was.

hes clearly playing with one of those power sapping injuries - a hip flexor or something like that.

and hes playing because we have an injury tsunami and hes a great captain.

name one dynastical reigning premiership captain, who is finished 17 games after lifting the Cup?

it just doesnt happen. You simply dont go from height of your powers, to finished in 6 months.

Gablett took about 5 years, and Cotchy is better than Gablett

I repeat, im astonished by the absence of reality here.

I really thought it would take more than a month of failure , after the greatest era of our clubs history,

before the dumb reactionary *smile* cranked up again.

Cotchin has been slowing over a period of time. He may very well be playing injured, but that underlines my point.
How often is he getting injured?
He has smashed, crashed and battered bigger bodies for years, with a crazed intent at times. That will take its toll. Ablett started out as a forward, and ended playing just midfield bursts.

He Chimpa was impacting when he lead the turnaround against the Dogs before pinging his hammy and had been lifting in his form.

Cotchie is not fit hes not had the chance to get conditioned up to where he needs to be to play his best.

No real chance to put the soft tissue demons away this season and not enough contioning to help keep them at bay early doors, with the pre season or lack of.

Edwards, Lambert and Prestia the same, the demand has been too much the preparation was not long enough.

Throw in another month away from his family and it has got on top of him.

He will play next year after a good rest a good pre season and better management.

He is not alone, plenty of others not getting near it either.

Lets take a quick look across the board.

Noah had not been having an overly great year he had a couple of good games but seemed off the pace and out of position regularly and then suffered a *smile* injury.

Broady consistent all season (one of only a half dozen or so this season) his best season of work over his career and held the backline together when others were playing below par, then bang gone with a syndemosis same as Noah in the same $%&#&# game no less.

Edwards was a shell of himself when he returned and Dion and Lambo also not the same.

Danny Rioli has struggled all year, so has George and Liam Baker save for a 3 game burst in the bests has been off his best als for most of the season and played with a lack of discipline at times.

Even the great Dylan Grimes had a very slow run into form and was off the pace and un Grimes like in many earlier games.

Grover has been well down this season, whilst Aarts has also struggled to impact consistently outside of a 3 odd game run of good games.

Pickett has actually been one of our hardest triers this year and has had a crack, been up and down with regard to performance and decision making but has put in effort.

Vlas has been off the mark nearly all year except his last game or three then injured again.

Jack Graham has had his usual one top game then 3odd games not so great inconsistency this year again also.

Bash the same as others with cursed soft tissues has been nowhere near it this year lacking mobility confidence touch and penetration on his kicks after his calf exploded, and spent his pre season rehabbing not actually getting work into himself and its showed in his footy this season.

Short has been down on impact and performance, disregard the cheap stats and Fantasy Points scores padding from handball receives and kick ins, and Jack Ross seemingly has again gone backwards this year be it playing out of position, loss of confidence, or his body composition but has never regained his early form.

Tommy and Dave were carrying knee injuries and Achilles tendinopathy / tendonitis respectively and trying to play with these injuries, but eventually had to have these issues addressed.

Nank was having a huge year and carried the side with Dusty, Shai, Jack and Broady pretty much the only other really reliable and consistent performers this season.

Then Nank goes down again and we don't have Soldo .....disaster.

Its just been a shithouse year and we've been swimming against the Rip Tide the whole time eventually you either realise you swim off it or you go under.

We must keep Bolton...........we must keep him.
