Well done Jason.

I wasn't always against it, but changed where it would identify my kids. It took time for my wife to understand my point of view though.

There's multiple dangers for kids, including:
Identity theft - easy to find DoB, maiden names etc.
No control over their privacy. There's so much out about them, they have lost control of their story before being able to consent to losing it
Mental health issues - parents tend to post all the "best" of their children growing up, which leads to kids having anxiety issues because they only see value in those "proud parent" moments, which you can't replicate every day.
A friend of extended family is a child psychologist. They are already dealing with this now, and Facebook has only been around ~17 years.

Just a few examples.

I won't criticise Brooke, other than to say she's probably ill informed. That picture of her kids has already been shared outside of instagram. She probably needs some education rather than scorn.
I'm pretty surprised that she replied. My partner has a reasonably large social media presence because of her work, but she never posts personal stuff. The number 1 rule seems to be never respond to negative comments. You can't win.

Wife says it’s okay to go and play?
Well that depends on how she said it.
Trent might be the captain of the team.
But I don’t think he wears the pants at home.
Thats his option mate.
Trent will do whats best.
Personally im not sure why this is a huge issue.
Trent should be at home with his family.
The players sign up to play at Richmond and not to be forced to be away from home for 3 weeks or 3 months at time.
I've said it, the player's should grow some balls and all of them refuse to play away from home longer then 10 days.

Personally I feel for Brooke. She's in a no win situation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Sometimes it's wise to sit in that person's shoes to understand better. As a society, no doubt aided by social media, we're far too judgemental. We need more compassion. Sometimes we need to mind our own business.

She put something out on unsocial media - when you do that, you've just made it everyone's business.

If it really comes down to “Damned if you do - Damned if you don’t” ........... don’t then

"I had to post a pic of my sick kid because people who don't know me but follow me on the 'gram might get worried because they can see photos of the other two kids but not the sick one and wonder where she is"

Influencer logic.

The guy who messaged Brooke is clearly a loser who seems to have deactivated his account because people started trolling him in turn.

But instagram does let you control who comments on your posts - you can switch it to allow comments from accounts you follow only, i.e. your friends and family. She didn't need to subject herself to the abuse she claims she is scared of.

1) hate social media and influencer culture. it's no good for anyone's mental health and is a worrying trend.

2) trent has a sick kid. any parent would want to be with them. I hope the child is OK and I back Trent to do whatever he needs to do.

She is a professional influencer, there's no "supposedly" about it.
Funny thing about bullying and belittling it always seems so easy to make an excuse for the reason why people feel so entitled to engage in that kind of behaviour.

As a parent and grandparent myself, I have found over the years the onus of taking personal responsibility for our words as well as our actions seems to have diminished in these social media times. Regardless of what life throws at us, we all choose how we respond.

I'm surprised they haven't made a little clip for phones to attach to the inside rim of the toilet bowl,

so we can see ultra-slomo closeups of childhood gastroenteritis on instagram.

or have they?

Bullying is never acceptable.

Influencers need to take responsibility for their words like everyone else.

like Spike Milligan said, "nothing is worn underneath the kilt - it's all in perfect working order"

Loved Spike Milligoon, an absolute comic genius.

His movie "Adolph Hitler, My Part In His Downfall" . Supposedly his "life story", was very funny, though it would be very dated now.
