On the whole Miller looking better but not overly sold on him need to see him start dominating as a key defender in our VFL side, should be Garth but always injured, (those 2 names alone shows we are light on for key defensive back ups). Biggie the other development defensive tall that still looks a fair way away.
Thanks Caesar for excellent work as usual.
Miller needs to get aggressive. To me he lacks competitiveness and urgency. He doesn’t need to mark or create, just spoil and harass like Grimes did starting out.
Send him to a boxing gym and ask him to get nasty. He has size and speed but no mongrel. Tell him to take Cholly with him

Pretty much agree with your assessment on Miller also I don't think he has great hands when it comes to marking ,for a guy of his size you would hope it was better. I don't think he is incapable of creating he doesn't mind a bit of a run.

Thanks Caesar. Caddy is an interesting one. Was he role similar to what Houli would do or more as a defensive lock player?
Couldn’t possibly see caddy replicating houli work, I ve never seen him dash more than 2 yards with ball in hand , I fear his only hope is either a grigg style link or key forward should we need one

I could see Caddy playing an intercept role down back similar to Vlastuin. But I'm not sure if we need another Vlastuin given we've also got Grimes, Balta, Astbury and Broad down there.

Training stepped up today.

Yes Marlion was there:clap2
Absent was CJ.
Rehab: Garth Soldo Cumberland Bashar
Injury: Biggie hobbled off early with what appeared to be an ankle and did not return, didn't look serious? I don't want to see Syndesmosis mentioned anywhere in an injury report.

After 20 minute warm up players in 3 groups were put through about 5 sets of shuttles alternating, after a 30 sec break, with equivalent number of full ground sprints.
I'll stop commenting on who does poorly in these as it does not necessarily equate to how they perform in match sim. Some lagged in the shuttles yet excelled in the full ground sprints. King of Kings when exhaustion set in were Dion and Kmac.
Egg appears to be gaining a bit of fitness compared to his previous results which was a bit of a surprise.

I have noticed this season there has been way more drills concentrated on forward entry delivery.
One is where they split into 4 groups set up at both ends of the ground split between wing and half forward. Ball is either thrown in or balled up and they go from there paired equally in yellow and red vest teams.
They do something similar from the wing but it starts with kicking.

Probably looked as sharp I have seen them this pre-season.

They then did about 20 minutes of what I would call advanced circle work continual movement hardly pausing for breath.

Then the smalls split into 2 groups did in close competitive handball keeping off drills. The talls were doing one on one contested marking.

2 AFL umpires were available throughout to impart their wisdom:)

The session culminated in a 2 x 15 minute contested match sim.

Mabs BOG: looked sensational around the ground with both his marking, ground work and beautiful left foot delivery.
DRioli: Was very sharp, maybe 2 goals 1 I think.
Balta: Is a competitive beast.
Shai: Sat out quite a few drills today so I were a tad worried but then match sim happened and I just smiled.
Ross : Good
RCD: Pretty good, just missed a couple of targets by foot, happy with his overlap run today.
Caddy: Seemed to be playing half back performed quite well.
Best of the trialists: Egg which you would expect because he knows our system, Mansell maybe next?

I don't need to comment on our A listers as we know what they bring.

Junior: Just love seeing him out there but a long way to go, I am waiting for something freakish from him to report.

That's it folks.
Legend!
I am wrapped to hear fwd 50 entries is something they are focusing on as, as good as we have been, this can certainly improve.

I want to get something off my chest.

womens footy has taken over RFC.com.

This time of year, I'm usually pursuing photos of mens training, and reading about whose flying.

But the content is 90% (I counted) WAFL.

Now im supportive of WAFL. I think its imperative and great that there is a pathway to a big league for 50% of the population.

But I dont enjoy watching it (I expect this to change when Ms. Rioli debuts). I've been honest with the club on the last 2 fan surveys (Supportive, but not really interested)

and I am a bit annoyed its relegated the information feed on the men

I know it needs promoting and the women are playing now and the men aren't and theres a small window.

I get it.

But the fact that its at the expense of media on the men is, rightly or wrongly (probably wrongly), producing an animosity in me towards WAFL.

I'd be comfortable with a 60/40 split in favour of WAFL and I dont mind scrolling down to see a video of the blokes training.

Im well aware my POV may be behind the times and out of step with a bigger picture at RFC.

But im being honest with you.

Yeah, Caddy seems to be Plan B these days - can play a role forward or in midfield if a player goes down. Great contributor to two premierships though.

Will turn around once we hit the 4 losses in a row mark and the crowds are bigger at the mens training sessions.

He’s the sort of ‘plug and play’ player that wins a club a Premiership. If he’s accepted that’s his role, then we’ll be better for it.

I hope our women win 4 in a row. I wish them every success and support the club.

I just dont want to watch them or read about them yet

Vlaustin has been affected a few times with concussion
Very bad one in the grand final
Broady also a couple of concussions
With the new 12 day break compulsory for any concussion
This might be why caddy is training with defence
Might be back up to these 2
Just a thought

Thanks Caesar.
Great to hear your report on Chol particularly. Love to see him develop the level of aggression needed. Could be absolutely anything if he can.
How is NV going?

Can't see that happening in the near future.Personally i think its a waste of resources in this current covid situation across the board.
