Trading two draft choices for a single player. Nup.

You're right to be dissatisfied with the yarran result but it's swings and roundabouts.
We shouldn't have got boultin and graham in the same draft so we pulled back some lost ground

i would not give our two first away even for fyfe,6-7 years left compared to 15-28 odd years of two quality kids, i reckon west coast won the judd deal by quite a margin at this stage, just kennedy alone 10-12 years of a high quality key position who kicks tons of goals against 5-6 champion midfield years is way better without factoring masten etc .

Agreed. Absolutely need to keep our first rounders this year.

If we try to get Fyfe with two first round picks, I might just go spare...
Fyfe will be a RFA so we won't have to trade. Just a massive contract that Freo won't match. :spin

But swings n roundabouts only allow you to hold your ground, you never get ahead if that's all you expect.
If Yazzy had worked out then perhaps you might get a win scenario by drafting both Shai and Jack. Yazzy fails and we're behind the eight ball to start with and need a definite win with both youngsters, plus we've missed the possibility of picking up something special with the picks we gave away for Yazzy.
Could be an absolute flaming disaster with no Yazzy, if both Shai n Jack are struggling to establish themselves in a few years.

Re-sign Martin.
Sign Fyfe as a free agent.
Can we afford both?

Keep both 1st round draft picks.
Could be a godly result.

no to giving two firsts for any player, that said would we think about two firsts for sache ( brisbane).

I just posted on the Sache thread that if he is that good I would do our 2 first rounders for him unless they were high first rounders (say top 5 ish) but if both our first rounders are 10 to 18 range I would do it.

You have to pay to get quality - particularly high quality KPP

You don't do it.

First rounders? For Treloar. ATM he's an exception.

High ones for a 23yo Fyfe would be in order.

Second rounders? Not two - for a fit Yarran. And certainly not for an absent one.

The problem in trading two years of second rounders for Yarran was not about Yarran. It was about the two year cost. Brutal. Brutal.

*Oh, but we traded many rationalisation - pick 19 etc*

Two years of second rounders is a very high price. The cost to the club is out of control.

Whoever concocted the price we paid for Yarran must be marched out of the joint. Or take a pay cut. ;)

We never pay two consecutive draft choices again unless it's for a champion.

Why do posters keep claiming that it was pick 19 or 18, the picks ended up being worth pick 12.

No heads rolled over that decision, pathetic.

Huh, how do work that out.
We traded a 2015 2nd rounder (pick 31) and a future 2016 2nd rounder (pick 30ish after academy picks)to GC for pick 19
Or are using indicative points value for the picks?

Get our own this year in the TALLS draft.

A top 8 ladder finish will probably see us miss out on the true gun talls in the draft unless one or two have years like MaCreadie did and drop down the order a bit which is what the RFC needs to be honest.

They will be all over the talls and where they sit. in the order.

If the Tigers start making plays for talls during trade time then we will be likely out of the running for the gun talls in the draft.

Treloar is a gun, but as it worked out we got Prestia and Rioli for the picks we would have given up. Would you trade them for Treloar right now?

I would at least consider it.

no deal. Prestia will be fine & Rioli is a superstar in waiting.

Go to the draft. I would take another Nankervis any day over giving up 2 first round picks on a tall.

Any thought of trading our 2 first rounders for a top 4 or 5 pick?
If it garunteed us a Judd, Brown , Rance or simply a superstar Mid or KPP I'd consider it, however it's always a bit of a raffle

A simple exercise would be to look at how many top 4 picks in the past 10 years were worth it. What if you got a Gumbleton? Or a Morabito? Could you have instead nabbed Alex Rance and Callan Ward (2007 example)? Or maybe we could have nabbed Nick Vlastuin AND Brodie Grundy (2012)?

It takes a team to win, and usually I'd rather add two quality players to the mix than one.

Great post. It's about playing the percentages. I'm quite comfortable with Matt Clarke at the helm.
