Trade period 2021

Herald Sun reporting that we trying to get the Pies pick 27.

Richmond is poised to be a major player in this year’s draft as it eyes five selections in the top-30. Here’s how the Tigers plan to add another selection, plus the latest trade buzz.

Jon Ralph and Marc McGowan

Richmond is taking aim at Collingwood’s pick 27 but the touted deal depends on the Tigers securing a trade with North Melbourne for Robbie Tarrant.
It’s understood Richmond is willing to bundle up selections 38 – the free agency compensation for new Sun Mabior Chol – 42 and 47 to acquire what is currently the Magpies’ top pick.

That would give the Tigers an extraordinary five picks inside the top 30, while Collingwood would have almost 500 more draft points to match a bid for father-son prospect Nick Daicos.

The Pies have already been heavily involved in pick swaps this week, including most recently sending No. 22 to Fremantle on Thursday for 27 and a future third-round selection.

Essendon is also believed to have registered its interest in Collingwood’s 27 and willing to part with a future pick to make it work.

The urgency for the Tigers is that free agency closes on Friday.

They have already convinced unrestricted free agent Tarrant to join them on a two-year deal but want to trade for him rather than sign him directly to avoid diluting the Chol compensation.

The other player mixed into these negotiations is Richmond ruck-forward Callum Coleman-Jones, who wants to be traded to the Kangaroos, where he would be Todd Goldstein’s eventual successor.

Much of the thought process up to this point was that Tarrant would be tied into whatever the Coleman-Jones deal looked like.

However, that trade is still some way from a resolution, with the clubs unable to find a common ground on Coleman-Jones’ worth.

There is also the threat of North taking the 22-year-old to the pre-season draft, where the Roos have the No. 1 choice, but clubs typically prefer to avoid that.

A Hartley Fire Sale!

3 picks for a 10 pick upgrade. What a *smile* deal. Hartley should be dragged over the coals for *smile* this trade period up.

It will probably end up being a 5 pick upgrade after the picks for Darcy and Daicos are removed.

Worst trade this year by a long way.

If we were going to give up a 500 point difference, it should have been for Pick 17, not for Pick 27

Collingwood already have 7 picks between 27 and 58.... How could they swap 27 for our 3 picks because that would mean they would need 9 free spots on the playing list (1/4 of the whole playing list) at draft time just to get Daicos in the door?

Would need to do a player dump just to recruit 1 top young player and possibly 8 duds from late picks..lol They surely need to combine some of their picks into higher picks.

the draft picks = list spots rule was scrapped couple of years ago i think

collingwood will need about 5 mid range picks for Daicos. Dogs did the same last year for UH

If they need 5 picks to make up the Daicos points though they need to take 5 ND picks. So they would have 4 more players to select with junk picks basically.

It was only scrapped last year due to the list size reduction. Its back for this year. You can only take the number of picks to the draft that you have list spots for.

Yeah, back to normal this year.

Collingwood have 27, 36, 43, 46, 48, 55, = 2,407 points from 6 picks for Daicos if North bids at pick 1... Then also 58, 78, 79 ...

So 6 list spots have to be free just to get Daicos if North bid...

Collingwood need to get higher picks not lower otherwise they are going to be picking from the scraps for 4-5 players depending on rookie upgrades

Seems like everyone is paying overs and gazumping us this year. I doubt the article is accurate as to the actual picks involved. Can we wait a bit before firing everyone?

edit - if the deal involves the dogs it could include pick 23

I think it's a good idea if we don't need all the picks we currently have. And it's still a 10 pick upgrade unless Darcy and Daicos go between 28 and 38. Having 27, 28 and 29 gives us good control over who we pick at that range.

Sounds very much like North will not do a deal for Tarrant, which doesn't include Coleman-Jones.
They are using the threat of their use of their number 1 pick in the ps draft to ensure they get exactly what they want in regard to both players... It is a kind of blackmail.
Apart from offering some additional fringe players like maybe Caddy, ES or Martyn, not sure we can or should do more.

Nearly every deal i have seen proposed for us in the wider media (not PRE obviously) involving pick swaps seems to have us as the loser in the deal

those 6 picks are worth 2,423 points - with the discount they need 2400 points if bid at pick 1.

how can list spots = draft picks when you have to use 6 picks for 1 player?

you expect to lose out in points if you want to go up the order.

The dogs 23 is the one we should target

Spot on
Stack picks and then throw them out the window.
I thought any pick 45-50 is still a quality pick.
Pick 27 for 38,43, & 45.
Thats fked

So North bids 1 for Daicos... Collingwood match with points (say need to use all 6 picks) but Collingwood's next available pick will now be the next Collingwood spot after those picks. And so on .

Obviously most clubs will pass late in the draft or not have a late pick but Collingwood could need to use 5 picks between say 60 and 80.

They surely need to trade up late picks for higher placed picks to get the points from less picks.
