TIGER'S MENTAL HEALTH

In the last couple of hours the AFL web site has an article saying "Tigers to appeal staging sanctions". When you read it there are six players challenging. Maybe they could have said 5 clubs challenge MRO, but no, there's more clicks in putting Tigers and staging in the headline.
But this is not just the media, this is the organisation which is supposed to be running the show, the organisation given custodianship of the game.

They should not be acting like this, they should be more even handed.

Trouble is, they are a bunch of amateurs who must think they are some sort of tabloid news outlet. It is not a good look, maybe they need to have a media department which briefs journalists, puts out press releases and then like rather then trying to be a news outlet.

What a joke.

I'll throw mine in as well.

Let the siege mentality go. The media aren't out to get us. The umpires aren't out to get us. The AFL isn't out to get us. Anyone who says anything even slightly negative about a player or the team doesn't 'hate' us.

They are all just people doing their jobs. Sometimes they get things right, sometimes they get things wrong, just like every other human being that has ever walked the planet.

Seeing it in any other way just creates an unhealthy mindset that ultimately leads to an overreaction to every incident and an inability to enjoy the game.
This isn't true sadly, the media is out to get everyone. They're not 'just doing their jobs', they're intentionally being bad citizens. Letting them off the hook for that is unacceptable IMO. Their number one priority of modern media (particularly the gutter trash at News and at Seven) is to goad a negative reaction - though it's not just us, it's every team. Pragmatic analysis doesn't generate anywhere near the clicks sniping sensationalism does. To that extent, the media's collapse in quality is the consequence of the new media paradigm - appealling to the worst in people. The only way to fight it is to not participate in it.

This is where they are caught though. The AFL Media team are meant to be independent - hence the furore when that Journo got stood down a few weeks back. The AFL was caned for stepping in and moderating what was being discussed.

If the AFL tell the AFL media team what to write and how to write it, then we can't complain about the above scenario. They're either a proper media outlet who have some independence (Even to criticise city hall) or they are a propaganda machine. I don't agree with the sensationalist click bait stuff, but the AFL can't moderate their own media team otherwise close it down.

I'd say close it down.

The AFL media team should only be there to do the usual stuff a media team does: write press releases, organise press conferences, organise events etc. They shouldn't be writing articles and running their own media arm, leave that to the actual media.

Agree. They’re a business, and their Media team should, by definition, stick to promoting the league. I’d prefer propaganda to their providing yet another outlet for poor journalism.
