Tigers 2012 - Hopes and prospects...

Yep, don't think they are mutually exclusive.

Fair call. Personally can't see us having all our guns play 22 games again 2 years straight. It's very rare. But let's hope they can.

If we have a better run with injury to our defense, and have more settled back six,we should see some improvement.

Agree we had a *smile* run down back but what happens if our midfield gets decimated like our backline did? The amount of ball heading towards our backline will be hard to stop.

Tiges to:

1. Win 14 games plus and to finish top 6.
2. produce 4 all australians; and
3. produce a coleman medallist who kicks his 100th in the final series.

Add another 12% on to our yearly percentage like we did this year from last year.

Increase our goal spread even more from this year to last season. This season was a heap better than last year, but we can and must improve even more.

Whack plenty of more games into Astbury, Grimes, Batchelor, Dea, Conca, Griffiths, Post, Brown, Helbig and any ready made players we pick up this draft.

Make the tough decisions (either way) with White, Gus, Morton, Thurstfield, McGuane, Nason, Miller, Hislop, Gourdis, Farmer, Edwards, and Taylor.

Trade ruthlessly (maximise trades), draft quality, delist players who aren't up to it or aren't playing to their abilities for club culture.

Win.

Side note; I'm still not sold on the idea of trading for a ready made ruckman. Call me stupid but Brown could be a solid, competitive ruckman in a year or two, TV made giant strides this year as a forward and was pretty good as a pinch hitter in the ruck, don't forget he was an equal if not better than Nicknat as a junior. Goose was ok at best. Sure, merge Gus and Brown and we have a player, but at what draft and financial expence, can we afford it right now when even if we had a b grade improvement, is it worth it with the developement at hand and the fact we are a year or two away from vying for a top four berth...

Anyway, next year, i'd like us to win more.

Both Browne and Vickery could help solve the ruck dilemma, but Browne is very raw and Vickery's more valuable in the forward line. Gus obviously isn't the answer, and while Derickz is the right age and size to make a difference he's got no experience whatsoever, so until Browne and Vickery mature as ruckman (Browne's a long way off and even TV needs a year or two) the side needs an experienced ruckman who can do some of the job until the other options mature and gain experience. I'd like to see a fully fit Griffiths play more than he misses and see Post get a real go at it, I think he could become that KPI defender the side needs, and he has the advantage of being able to play either end of the ground. I don't see giant strides being made up the ladder, but I think another 8 - 10 wins and a 12 - 9 finish would be achievable and acceptable. It won't be about wins and finals until at least 2013.

Success at the draft table is all important, I doubt we'll make serious inroads unless we add another 4-5 quality players. We had a good run with injuries despite the backline suffering, all our A-graders were fit and healthy but it wouldn't take much for the whole midfield to capitulate.

2012 = finals or the year is deemed a failure.

Can't agree with this goose.

Anything better than 12th place, 8 1/2 wins and percentage of 86 is fine and would be regarded as success.

Getting higher than 9th is meaningless bubbles and froth unless it is also above 5th. Top 4 is probably unlikely but a realistic target for 2013.

11 wins + and finals should be the goal for 2012. Mid top 8 position for 2013 and then top 4 should be the goal for 2014. Must aim higher and not accept missing finals.

Yep. It will take 2 more drafts at a minimum. Then its just about adding more quality in as we go. But our bottom 6 will still be average for a couple more years.

Finals unlikely at the moment. But that could change after the off-season if we make a few good moves in trade period and drafting.

Cotchin to win 2nd best and fairest and average 28 disposals a game (instead of 24 this year) and kick 20 goals.
Riewoldt to kick 70 goals.
Martin to average 25 disposals a game and kick another 35 goals.
Foley will still be lacking his old pace
Griffiths will start to find his feet.
Moore to retire at the end of next year due to injuries (hope not...)
Vickery to have a consolidating year and playing a little more in the ruck (still kicking his 30 or so goals).
The need for a classy small forward becomes more obvious.
Backline makes some improvements but we are still leaking too many goals against the good sides.

Hello :) I was thinking what we need to do is a thorough analysis of the teams right above us and also a team like the Weagles. We need to see what they have that we don't and what they do that we don't.

The two best teams of the past few years are playing on Saturday. We need to put bias aside and work out how we can copy them. Are Riewoldt and Vickery as good as Cloke and Dawes? Is there another J-Pod in the VFL?

Stuff like that.

I would LOVE finals in 2012, heck I'd love a premiership in 2012 but realistically what we need to aim for in 2012 is more improvement. I think we saw some major improvement in the forward line this season (kicking bigger scores + greater spread of goal kickers) and in the midfield (Cotchin finally had a pre-season, Foley back - getting better each week, Martin having more experience and Lids running through the midfield more) but we need to improve in the ruck and down back. I am more confident that we are improving down back with the problem being too many young KPP in defence (i.e. Rance, Grimes, Astbury, Post) who take time to develop. We need Kel Moore back there along with Newy to give these kids some guidance - but the ruck is the key.

In terms of wins/losses so much depends on the draw, your injuries and suspensions but all things being equal we should be pushing for finals in 2012. After all wasn't the 3-0-75 by 2014 meaning 3 finals appearances??

Weagles have experienced premiership players and a phenomenal ruck combo. They have also mastered the press they have been working on for 3 years. We started working on it 5 weeks before end of season (our bye round?). Don't think we can just bring in a heap of premiership players. We need to win one for that to happen ;D
