I hope this is the right forum for this question. :help

I'm coming down to Melbourne from Towsville to attend the round 1 clash against Carlton. I've never been to the MCG before
so I need some advice on seating. Which end will be the tiger end and also is there any difference on where you are seated?
I don't want to end up in the middle of the Carltank supporters.

Thanks
Rohan

Richmond's end will be the Mighty Punt Road End neve.  I prefer to sit on the wing myself.  The eyes are a tad dodgy to see the other end from behind the goals these days.

Welcome to PRE. :)

As rosy said punt road end, "the goal end being closer to punt road”...This is the Southern stand, if u want to be right behind the goals IE: Richmond Cheer Squad and Grog Squad "tiger army" u get seats in bays M2 or 3 or 4....if u want to be around more half fwd go for seating around bays M 6 to 10....Im not sure if u can go on the “wing” around bays M 10 to 15 cause i think its reserved for Richmond members but not 100% sure on this hopefully others can inform more if its possible to get seats in their even though sometimes it never looks full...

Dont sit near the Carlton cheer squad, dont want what happend to me to happen to you when we beat them round 1 last year.

Elaborate checkers? If it's a beating you copped, do let us know...there's sure to be some ferals on here who are more than happy to 'return the favour'...

That's correct FruityTuty. Richmond members and MCC members on that wing (city side pocket to pund rd about HFF I think - where the old player's race used to be). Doubt the MCC members reserve will be thrown open for this one, which it is done sometimes now I believe.

Haha. Well not quite a beating but I did cop a few hits. Im not really one to take football to seriously but apparently the carlton cheersquad are. Put me off football a fare bit to be honest.

Thanks for the advice. I assume that I should book tickets rather than take my chances on the night?

for sure nevefan - if you don't book you may miss out on decent seats and end up at the Cartoon end of the ground and you don't want that - trust me. I sat near those wankers at the Dome one night as I didnt know where the heck to pick my seats and it turned out it was close to that lot and I will never do that ever again - I nearly got my head beaten off as I was barracking against the Blues (I think they played Brissy). Not worth it as their cheer squad and associates are nasty!

M9 is a good section to be in if you can get it - we had seats there last year but the AFL took them off the Tigers this year so we have seats in M10 this year. You will right in with the Tiger supporters in section M9 and close to the Tiger cheer squad and fans. Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

This is a big occassion for me as I have never had the chance to get to Melbourne to see a game live.
I went to the Tiges vs Melbourne practice game in Cairns last year, but this will be something else :spin

Are there any good places to go after the game to celebrate with other fans :), and where do I avoid if the blues win :-[ ?

The London Tavern is always good before and after - usually a mix of both Richmond and opposition fans but always a big Tiger turnout, good beer & food, good beer garden and good atmosphere...me and my contingent will be there from 3pm onwards...most pubs on Swan Street (and there are many) are full of the yellow and black, not to mention the cricketers (opposite punt road training ground on Punt Road) and the royal which are feral but very richmond orientated...you can't go wrong in either of the pubs listed above...just follow anyone who looks like they're alcoholics (there are many!) and you'll end up amongst many a tiger feral to celebrate...

You don't need to avoid any pubs due to carlton fans - richmond supporters will fill all and sundry with the yellow and black win, lose or draw...

The link below shows a list of most Richmond pubs including the ones mentioned with addresses, etc.

Tickets go on sale from Ticketek tomorrow, for those worried it may be hard for them to get there early for a general admission seat. Not stated as a ticket only match though. This will be for those that rather reserve and take their time arriving, being a work day and all.

Yes, good point BBC80 - I have requested and been granted the day of the game (Thursday) and the following day (Friday) off this year and I'm not missing this for the world. If the Blues win I will think of some great comeback for their fans as they give it to us on the way out - morons! Let's hope I don't need to do that. I will be leaving with my feral flatmate - a Cartoon fan, so I will be hoping more than ever!

As he will be working that day and not coming home before the game - I am going to decorate his room again in yellow and black...... it always goes down well - even better if we win! ;D

neve,

for the total tiger experience the only place to be is between M1-4, in amongst the certified lunatics, the booze hounds, the yellow & black obsessive compulsives. The twitchers and droolers, the mad. If your eyes are failing like mine you can always check the big screen when the ball is up the other end.

Also as you leave the ground from say M1-2 you’ll follow the crowd through to a bottle necked zone before the exit (and this is pure gold)- as you shuffle along the grog squad will be perched above looking down upon you through beery eyes happily belting out tiger tunes (if we win), coming down the stairs opposite will be another flank of elevated Tiger singers, and directly below, the Tiger wheel chair choir - all singing and clapping and carrying on. Good vibes all round!
I know of no other scene so Dickensian as this in Melbourne – it’s a thing to see and savour.

Enjoy! :)

A good story well told

Well, it’s Sunday, Col , nothing else to do after the vacuuming, dishes and laundry are done.

Oh, and neve, BYO sangers – the MCG tucker is seriously incognito

I am comparing the irrational swings in market sentiment of Wall Street after the Global Financial Crises and PRE after a NAB cup game. Interesting stuff.
