Thoroughbred racing

Channel 7 showed Jamie Kah with her mouth wide open as she watched Giga Kick cross the line to win the Everest. She was the girl friend of Clayton Douglas until she found another mount, and rode Giga Kick for Douglas when it won on debut at Sale and is probably thinking if only.......

Giga Kick was $50 during the week and paid $19.90 for the win with NSW TAB. Good luck to those that backed it.

As an aside, Nature Strip has been 2nd up 10 times for 2 wins.

Pretty average CC today I reckon. More interested in the Everest to be honest where I know Chimpley’s old balls are right on the line in a tipping comp with mutual mates by going all in on Nature Strip.

Don’t drop this one Chimpley !!!
No Chumpford jumped off when Lost and Running got scratched and Nature Strip way too short. Also had concerns about his second up record; he as at his most vulnerable. Backed Private Eye and thought I was home until the 3yo bloused him. On top of Gold Trip and Bandersnatch also getting beat a nostril. Geez.

Did manage to get Front Page and Chain of Lightning so not all bad.

Jamie Kah is out of form at the moment. As is Oliver; terrible ride on Cap De Joie today; got too far back and gave it little chance. Mighty effort to get beaten half length with that *smile* ride. Bowman not riding well either.

Could be worse. You could be Mark Zahra and be *smile* all the time.

It'd be 30 years since Oliver didn't have a ride in the Caulfield Cup.

As I said earlier, I'm stocked for Clayton, I love a battler, but he is a battler no more $$$$$

"Clayton Douglas stood on the side of the stage after The Everest presentation trying to stop his phone from lighting up with well-wishers.

Giga Kick’s explosive win in The Everest means the 27-year-old trainer’s world is never going to be the same.

“I know that,” a smiling Douglas told The Sun-Herald.
“It’s been an unbelievable ride, and to have a horse like this, I haven’t experienced anything like this before. Even in the mounting yard, it’s all been amazing.

“To win a race like this, and for [owner] Jonathan Munz and slot-holder James Harron – they are big investors in the industry – they took a punt on a young kid who is only having a crack. It’s now paid off.”

Douglas, a former champion jumps jockey who held a dual licence – and only prepared his first winner, Barocha, two years ago in the middle of COVID in country Sale – has no idea how big he wants to become.

As big as Chris Waller? As big as Ciaron Maher?

“I really don’t know – we’ll see what happens,” Douglas said. “I just know there will be a good party tonight.”

Douglas is barely recognised in the racing game and was even turned away by security at Caulfield last Saturday when he had forgotten his trainer’s badge.

He told the Herald before the race how he was well aware he was taking on some of the country’s biggest trainers but had always backed his ability.

At the furlong I thought, ‘geez he’s going to run a big race’, and it was amazing to see him hit the line the way he did,” Douglas added.

Jockey Craig Williams is determined to stick with Giga Kick – you have to wonder what price the pair start back against the three-year-olds in the Coolmore Stud Stakes in a fortnight – and said of Douglas: “You talk about how young of a trainer he is, but he’s well before his time. I’m just lucky to have been part of the ride.”

Douglas wanted to be an AFL player. His best mate, Jake Aarts, is a former Richmond player. Weighing 61kg, he still rides all his horses’ work, including Giga Kick who was flying during the week.

Giga Kick has an enormous future. So does his trainer."

With one of the great actors Robbie Coltrane passing away - Leysy passes a motion that all PRE punters watch the greatest movie ever made (that Robbie starred in) at a minimum 3 times before the Melbourne Cup.

Let it Ride.

Leysy is part way through viewing number 2 of this stretch now (and 46 overall).

I actually watched it on Friday night (closer to 4 than 46 viewings). So good.
