Re: PRE Punters Club

Hmm, yes we were close with Calibrate but we did have a good result at Kembla Grange with All My Loving breaking her maiden status. Hope some of you guys got on.

I have copied Trainer, Tony Noonan's report on the run of Calibrate.

Please find below a report from Tony Noonan:
As I mentioned in my voice message yesterday, both Steve Arnold and myself were of the opinion that the run of CALIBRATE at Geelong yesterday was even better than his maiden performance. I know he was comprehensively beaten but he was really in a different race to the winner, the winner had got away from him at crucial stages, we were then spotting the leader a big head start and the horse that won the race obviously has good ability.
Unfortunately we really needed something to bring him into the race, we were always aware from that barrier draw that we are going to be back and the pattern of racing that day suggested you needed to be close to the pace so we were always going to be giving them a head start. I thought his effort to come deep and keep running, in fact, his last 100m was really good, I know the winner was probably entitled to stop but I thought our horse made really good momentum the last 100m so obviously the further he goes, the stronger he is going to be on the line.
He trotted out well this morning, he left a little bit of feed last night, the plan at this stage is to back him up at Sandown next Wednedsay to a benchmark 70, we may be a risk of not getting a start but we will nominate on Thursday and see. We will be conscious of his recovery in the latter part of this week, obviously I am not going to run him unless I think the horse has bounced out of the run yesterday well and is still on the way up.
As I mentioned in my voice message, at this stage the plan is to just give him one more run, I then want to give him a break and have him back before the Winter months because I seriously doubt him on a soft track so I would like to get another bit of racing into him before hopefully his form warrants a trip up to Queensland where he can race through the Winter. The horse, in his two runs back, has shown that he is bigger and better than ever and I think the future looks bright for him.

Re: PRE Punters Club

The resurrection of the infamous PRE Punters Club.

I'm in.

Note to Tigergollywog - whilst the FTF is an excellent and worthwhile cause - bear a thought for Rosy who pays for the operation of PRE by herself - Advertisements these days help her but I'm sure there is a substantial amount that comes out of her personal savings to keep PRE alive.

Remote Tiger very generously ran a Punters Club on here for many years. It was great fun. I don't know how it worked out profit wise. The proceeds were paid into PRE's bank acct to help with hosting costs but Remote paid for all the bets himself and copped the losses. The funds were greatly appreciated but I suspect overall the club might have run at a loss. There are records of the yearly results on the Thoroughbred thread.

Rosy whilst I copped the losing days - there were many strong winning days too where the collects minus the outlay were forwarded to the PRE bank account. Overall I believe the original PRE Punters Club ran at a slight profit - there are many smart people on here that know their way around both a stable and the racetrack.

Further I take my hat off to Tigergollywog for running this - it was and can be again enormous fun.

Tigergollywog as an incentive to take pride in one's bets -

I'm willing to throw in a $50 gift voucher to the Tigerland Superstore for the 2014 PRE Punter of the Year......

Cheers RT

Ripper RT. I think your suggestion of making PRE a beneficiary is a good one. Once we win millions, we'll pay dividends to PRE :hihi.

thanks Bern. I'll need to swap with someone, I'm heading to Burma for 3 weeks, no internet in most places, (no credit cards, no ATMs, no travellers' cheques :p) back 14 March.

Couldn't you have a few hundred million kyat on an elephant race or some thin' snakes?

Your punting streaker.

When your ready, have a punt.

Re: PRE Punters Club

OK

I am a bit of a snob when it comes to punting. A collect on a Group 1 has more bragging rights than anything else. But then there are Group 1 races, and then there is Group 1 races.

The Oakleigh Plate has to be one of the hardest races to pick. The fields are usually very good, and so there is plenty of value to be had.

I like Spirit of Boom in this one. We are going with D.Oliver to boot home the roughy. At least we'll get a good ride on this for the $10.

Should start at around 16/1.

Funny, I like s o b in the plate today too.

For $160, we could probably hire a bikie for half a day to hang out in public with chad Wingard.

Re: PRE Punters Club

Bugger.

I was thinking of just laying the place to get the punters club an early return, but figured I'd go hard cause I thought the Boom was primed.

And she ran well, just not well enough. Lankan Rupee was in another class. Had the race shots to bits well before the turn home.

Pretty good punting streak. I backed it straight out too. I think you did the right thing ....$40 wouldn't have hired us a very convincing bikie. The winner looks the kind of horse to back every time. Very strong.

Well, two punts, two seconds, and tiger44 up to break our duck.

Streak - you had the Quinella and didn't know it. It payed $26.80 for a lazy $5 you would have collected $134 and $5 on S.O.B. for the win.

Hey mate its very easy after the race......Don't ya just luv Sunday Morning know-alls?

I had a poor day yesterday - mostly favourites and shorter priced winners getting up - only 4 winners in Sydney and Melbourne paid double figures - I got two of them didn't bet in the other two races so had no chance of getting the other two. My Black Type profile was a bit stiff in the 5th had Mourayan and Star Rolling.

Had a great calendar year last year as I won handsomely - but can't take a trick since January 1 this year - losses in both January and February so far.

Lets hope the profiles can turn it around in March!
