Thomson Dow

We dropped Sonsie in a very similar example and those bloke has been on the list for years.

Sunken cost. Move on give the minutes to Sonsie.

Learn the lesson, draft pure mids who can kick. How many years have I been saying it?

Dow wasn't impacting games greatly at TAC level. Prefer the Jack Ross junior resume as a template.
Why can’t we play both? As in Dow and Sonsie.

BTW the Sonsie omission is stupidity. We trot out the same geriatrics who can’t get a kick.

I'd love to see the data on success of slow developers. I don't think it would be pretty. Not many players who haven't debuted by early second season, and be getting a regular game by season 4 would make it.
Same. My running theory is 3 years for smalls and mediums and 4 years for talls. Barring serious injury, if you’re not best 23 by then chances are you never will be and should be moved on.

Keep playing him.
Like Ross he hasn’t had a run of games to prove whether he’s worth keeping. This year is the tear to do it instead of wasting games on blokes trying to get them to milestones ( Edwards /last year Cotchin this year).

He played exactly how I thought he would play and getting subbed in the 3rd means the coaches had seen enough to know he has nothing to offer.
That said with where we are at giving him a few more weeks can’t hurt. Maybe the slow burn theory plays out in his favour.

Nah I reckon he's reserved an ejection seat come end of October.

One notable exception was Michael Tuck, who played two seasons in the reserves before establishing himself.
Way back then clubs had seniors ressies and U/19s and about 100 players on their lists. No surprise at all for some to spend a couple of years learning their craft and physically maturing before they become senior players.
A total of 14 games over three and a half seasons, with what can only be described as a failure in his first effort this year doesn't bode well for the young fella.

Attended 6 centre bounces (not a lot), for 0 centre clearances. He had 2 clearances from stoppages.
6 disposals, 136m gain, 50% efficiency.
1 I50, 2 R50.
1 tackle, 9 pressure acts
47 mins played out of 115min

He's played about 40% of the game. So, assume he could play 80%, that's 12 possessions, at 50% efficiency.

I'm not hung up on where he was taken, there's 3 players of note in the next 25-30 picks. It was a crap, crap draft. My knock is he can't kick.

I know in our old game style, before the stand rule, we didn't prioritise disposal efficiency...but those days are gone. I'm sure Dow can eek out a good career in the SANFL or VFL. Just not skilled enough for AFL. Time to move on.

This has been obvious his whole career. I'm actually surprised he was drafted given he has no left foot whatsoever. Not even remotely adequate.
I believe he was a Shedda pick. Must have fallen for the handball & movement but that's not enough at AFL level.
Kicking skills in the current format are imperative.

Does Dow get one more chance?
Or papers stamped back in May.
He's in reasonable vfa form
