The Work Christmas party

Didn't realise the work Christmas party in Oz had become a right and not a perk.

Wages are stil pretty crappy here in Ireland but last year we went down the country to Kilkenny, home of perrenial Hurling champs who wear Yellow and Black. The boss said we could put the hotel and dinner on expenses so we had great night out all expenses paid partners included. But it was in Februrary.

Our company is tight so one of the guys we used to work with is throwing a shin dig. When a bottle of beam is$12 you can't go wrong. Train there, jacuzzi, myself and a few other guys are bringing our guitars. Should be great fun.

Had ours on the 6th - a Morrocan themed bar near the office in Prahran. Company is about 200 employees - includes a call centre so there are lots of Pretty Young Things around. They got into the spirit by dressing up in an assortment of North African/Arabic styles - and the execs wore weird headgear and caftans. A DJ and a belly dancer.

Nice finger food, free drinks at the bar (wine and beer) but not spirits.

Not a bad little evening.

review on mine,
80 people work here.
only 22 went ( id didnt go)
they all got a free meal at the resteraunt at 6.30 then had to buy own drinks, aparrantly stubbies were $6.50 each, so most had only 2 or 3 and left and went to another pub where it was $3 pots all night.....those that went said it was crap.

I thought i would open this old chestnut.

a bit of controversy at my work at the moment...(office 70 people)

they offered Christmas party in two weeks (cough)...meals $25 per head and drinks at bar prices at a local restaurant/hotel.
of the rsvp, only 8 of 70 said yes. (fri night 6:30pm) after we have worked all week mon -fri

new one come out last night,

the workers meals will be pad for, drinks at bar prices and you have to buy your partners meal.
early indications are, not much more than 8 will be rsvp ing again.

how is everyone else going?

I offer and pay for the staff and partner's meals and drinks - except spirits - at a restaurant.
It's dinner on a mid week night.
12 staff plus partners.
Dunno if this is good or bad employer behaviour.

In the federal public service we don't have Christmas parties. We have EOY (End OF Year) parties.......

I reckon they'll come back with workers meals paid for, partners get 1 entrée paid for, excluding the scallops or lamb cutlet menu items, and 1 house wine or mid strength beer.

(I wonder what their acceptable threshold of takers to non-takers is?)

I'd be happy with that pop.

My first boss used to make a big show of coming around to everyone's work area with a gift, which was either half a dozen VB stubbies or a box of caburies favourites chocs, depending on the vibe of the worker. That was it. Us workers would go for a counter lunch off our own bat and he would crack it because we'd taken an hour instead of our usual half hour.

When I was a bouncer we had our Christmas party at Caloundra football club. 2000 bucks on the bar, no shots. Buffet laid out. Around 50 guards plus partners and ring ins. The boss ended up telling everyone (who wasn't driving) to do shots as there was still about 600 on the tab with 90 min left. Had a police car there who did some donuts in the car park. Tug of war challenge, awards, rookie of the year, guard of the year, best reason for not turning up to a shift award etc.

Best Christmas party ever.

we get an e-mail midday ;D

a new one is getting organised and will be e-mailed to us tomorrow :rofl

i had a great one at blockbuster video about 12 years ago and another one at a family hotel a few years ago...everyone drunk and was great!

Our last Christmas hurrah before we are merged/taken over. Fully catered with some home truths to finish I reckon!

That's what I keep hearing until the function starts, and then it turns into the first 2 hours only....

True- with the partners comment i reckon.

but in this soft world we live in...

instead of all the workers having a big one, they actually prefer the partners to come for a sobering influence.
