The Work Christmas party

All too much for a 20yo country boy. The aftermath involved breakdancing in the middle of a Springvale rd intersection (apparently), breakdancing at chasers (apparently) and breakdancing at the sentimental bloke (apparently).

Tigersnake doing the windmill and the turtle spin in streetdancing?.......U say wot? :hihi

actually did a pretty good windmill back in the day, struggled a bit that night though, shirt was pretty shredded I remember :-\

Speaking as a business owner I can tell you the hardest task is arranging a free everything party that all the staff agree on.
Several years ago I offfered a free 2 night stay in a luxury B&B with spouses/etc. with free food and drinks at an upscale eatery.
Most of the staff said not interested.
Now I just pay for a p*ssup and me and the better half go away for a nice little celebration. ;)
IMO it's not only the bosses who can be difficult, but some of the workers - although that could be stretching the meaning of the word "worker" for some of them - are equally to blame.

i have a new job this year and, they are paying for our meal at a resteraunt but drinks at bar prices and its at 6.30....we work 8.30-5
i not going due to having a friends 21st on

at previous jobs they were great, free meal.....free beer and some games etc.
and we all recived presents from the boss.

Just an update. Our organisation function will be held on our premises. Food and soft drinks provided with "games". How lovely. So much for all those extra hours staff put in. And some people think government departments are like snouts in the trough. Maybe for the Executive and directors but for the workers it is just basics.

My previous employer held theirs on a Sunday. Family atmosphere, no grog. I didn't mind it but a few blokes refused to give up weekend time if not allowed to have a drink.

I forgot to add that the Kris Kringle at work isn't exactly the best thing to have when you look at the offensive 'gifts' people can receive some times.

I was a victim once.....I think... ;D

Got given a Wiggles DVD once. Still trying to work it out. :headscratch

Does your job involve wearing a yellow, blue, red or purple t-shirt? That could explain it.

A further update. Our Christmas party (the major Christmas party of the organisation) was going to be held off site possibly at the local library believe it or not. That changed to being held on premises from 12pm til 5pm and now is a "lunch" from 12pm finishing at 2pm with staff going back to work afterwards. Disgraceful and have withdrawn going along with many many others of this dispicable government department. Time to look for another job.

We had a jumping castle at our Christmas party.

Two groups of staff members, one my own colleagues (headspace), the other our lead agency (a Medicare Local).

Probably pretty obvious which group of staff members spent the majority of the time on the castle...

Sounds similar to ours. Spouse friendly, all laid on, Saturday night affair. This year has been dialled back a little though. December 6th too.

Looking forward to it.

Follow up on this. Was a wonderful night that everyone I have spoke to enjoyed.

The vibe at work has been great this week too. For me that is why it is important. Real sense of community developed.

Look for another job because you can't have a day off on the *smile*? Get some perspective. You're not actually entitled to anything for Christmas.

We had our on Saturday night and it was great. It was a casino royale themed party which was really just formal attire. I wore a tuxedo morphsuit instead which everyone got a kick out of.

It also had one of those fake professional casinos, with a trophy for the person who won the most fake money. Everyone took advantage of the all you can drink buffet as we always do. Good night, with no issues.

Look out, Tommy. The boss will be knocking on your door this morning!

Nooo. Only clue I had was a whisper it might've been the payroll guy. Maybe I shouldn't have lobbed that rubber footy in his coffee...

update on mine, its tonight. we have 80 who work here, only 30 rsvp to going.
a few niggles around the office during the week and eveb an argument, a lady asked one of the workers why he wasnt and he said, "because i dont want to go" then abused her for asking him to explain his decision haha.

would have prefered a couple of hours from 3 to 5 tonight for nibbles and a few drinks, if they didnt want to do much.

Ours is next week. Had a staff meeting yesterday where it was explained that because we were in the news for less than favorable reasons we have to keep our head down and it will probably be the same for the next couple of years. Went on to mention that the Board had a low key affair as well where they went and bought table cloths at a local DFO to use at their gathering which will be re-using for our affair next week. What she failed to admit that it wasn't the general staff who were caught out but the fat cats at the top of the tree so we all have to pay the piper for however long it takes. But hey we aren't entitled to anything anyway... :hihi

A past employer's newly-arrived CFO introduced himself by saying the last three companies he'd worked for had gone broke. No surprise then, that after several years and having overseen various cutbacks which made it a less enjoyable place for us plebs to work, his new company also found turbulent waters. Guess who wasn't one of the redundancies.
