If you assumed no players were safe, and we would get well compensated for whatever guy was taken, what would be your top 6 guys in order that you would be most desperate to keep at Richmond...

I'm guessing most people's top 3 will have the same players, but the order that you feel them most important is interesting, and who sits just outside your very top guys... It doesn't necessarily need to be who you consider our best 6, but who you think will be most important for whatever reason to hang on to at all costs..

1. Martin
2. Cotchin
3. Reiwoldt (without Vickery though he'd be number 1 for me)
4. Vickery
5. Houli
6. Deledio

Grimes is shortly behind that.. Feeling he'll be our most important defender in a few years...

Houli?
I like your list however I'd take Houli out and we have the same top 5.
No. 6 is interesting but it comes from a large group of players of whom we hope 1 or all emerge in 12 months
Rance, Griff, Astbury, Grimes, Batch, Foley, Houli etc

Keepers
Cotchin
Martin
Jack
Vicks
Rance
Lids

Rubbish bin

Morton
White
Farmer
Hislop
Miller
Moore
Nason
Mcguane
Browne

The good part about this thread is that there are finally actually more than 5 or 6 we need to hold onto going forward. Not too long ago it would have been hard to come up with 6 names of players that were absolutely essential to us going forward.

I'm surprised others had Riewoldt down in third as well actually... I probably would have had him 1st at the end of 2010 but the goal kicking spread and Vickery showing he is strong down there has made Riewoldt not so ridiculously essential to our goal kicking power.. But it's brilliant having him there none the less....

Houli was the one I did wrestle with as Richo pointed out... My hope or expectation is that he continues to grow into a Newman type player. Always reliable, steps up his tackling and pressure,,,,, and ends up just being the guy you can rely on to perform solidly every single week, win lose or draw..

Conca will be that guy IMO. Plus his tackling and pressure isn't in question. As good as he is I think you can replace Houli easier than a very good/great midfielder.

Cotchin
Martin
Deledio
Riewoldt
Vickery
Conca

Not only because they are all talented but because we have invested heavily in them.

Good to see Lids at the top of a list. I reckon he's largely under rated by some on PRE. A very important player to our team.

Definitely. I believe he is our most valuable player because of his ability to play forward, back, and centre. There aren't many of him in the AFL!

That, but Grimes and a couple of others knocking on that door.

I'd have Grimes in my top six 'keepers' for sure.

Doesn't mean he is in our best 6 players but when you consider his age and the fact that he is still probably undervalued by the broader football world he is a massive keeper. Imagine how little compensation we would get if he went to GWS and how much we would miss out on. I would be spewing if he left.

I'd go:
1. Cotchin
2. Vickery
3. Grimes
4. Martin
5. Rance
6. Riewoldt

Lids is a great player but if he left I think we would be compensated accordingly and would subsequently be able to cover him more easily than the six players above.

i've rated them in terms of importance, structurally

1 riewoldt
2 cotchin
3 vickery
4 rance
5 martin
6 deledio

we got some fair bookends and some nice juice in the guts. you can throw a blanket over a hand full after that.

grimes houli astbury conca nahas

and i expect batchelor and post to join them aftre next season. good times ahead
