The PRE 2011 Phantom draft

Nice pick Tot.

He was in my thinking for pick 40 and I was gonna snag him but North have more than enough inside mids who are see ball get ball types. Greenwood has the tagging covered as well.

It's hard to gauge what Adelaide need now that they have a new coach. Craig always wanted tall, athletic types who could run up and down the field all day long, running to receive again and again. I watched some of their game this year when Scott Thompson picked up 53 touches or whatever ridiculous number he had and I remember thinking that if he didn't win it in close, the other team got it. He didn't have too many team-mates getting their hands dirty that day. I suspect that Sanderson will want some ball-winners with a bit of aggression and a bit of grunt.

Lockyer was in my thinking too.

I like the Andrew Bosely pick.

Only seen him twice but remember his game against Patton at the champs. Hes got a ways to go, but I reckon he definately will turn out like Fletcher from the Bombers.

plenty of upside I reckon.

yep, I really liked that performance too. I haven't seen the TAC demolition he did on Patton but I heard Patton had his poorest match of the season against the Falcons.

Pick 44: Carlton
Clay Smith
Gippsland Power
180cm
78kg

In-and-under mid, with exceptional endurance. Kicking isn't great, but has lightning fast hands. Judd needs other people doing the grunt work. He can't destroy his body again in H&A and expect to carry Carlton in finals.

Cameron Ellis-Yolmen

Bastard! I was hoping no one else rated him. Won't be surprised if this kid is tearing it up in a couple of years. Loves to take on the game and run and bounce. Good height and a good mark. Very handy looking footballer. What's the knock on him? He is a South Australian :hihi

I was going to take him with 29 but Ross was still available. I was hoping Ellis-Yolmen or Dobosz would slip, but that was ambitous to think they would be available with 55.

Port Adelaide
Pick 45-Tom Downie (VIC – Ruck)
Height: 205cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 04/27/1993

Lotte,Renouf and now Downie provides a future solid Ruck division.
With Downie,s baskettball background Port hope to develop him into the same mould as Arron Sandilands who can go fwd and be damaging.

OK.

I had a few ideas for this pick but all except one have been cleaned up over the last couple of picks.

Adelaide, pick 46. Marley Williams

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy3hYbUSOYI

Little known fact. Buffalo soldier was written by Bob Marley and Noel G "King Sport" Williams.

If his parents wanted to name him after the late, great Mr Marley, why didn't they just call him Bob?

Pick 47 Brisbane selects

Jackson Merrett

Not sure if the Lions would really go with this pick given his Mum has MS and he has been one of her main carers. But looks to be best available here to fill a need for the Lions, outside player who is quick and uses the ball well enough.

I suspect clubs from interstate will understand his circumstances and let him play in Victoria.
