The I ❤️ Collingwood thread.

Reckon Ned Guy's in the cross hairs right now.
Collingwobbles told him what to say. He was face of the debacle, the voice for the faceless men who stuffed up. Don’t worry we got your back.
Will be sacked within the next couple of days.

And Eddie's clarification "Spoke to him, never pursued him".

I reckon what happened was..... Tommy Lynch met with Buckley. ....... then afterwards said to his manager. ... No *smile* way I'm playing under that fraud. ... call Geoff Walsh and tell 'em don't even waste ya time put anything together and while ya at it, call Eddie too and tell him he's a first rate knob!

Bloody smart bloke, our Lynchy!

So does this now put pressure on Collingwood to go hard in 11 months to grab a quality free agent? I mean no point clearing the decks and state it's partly due to allowing them to share a FA is there?

Or do they get Trent Dumont and say "We've been wanting Trent for some time now and we feel he's just the quality type we need to bolster our playing list"?
It doesn’t make free agency players and their agents feel confident about signing a long term deal with them does it ?

“ you shafted Treloar so how do I know you won’t do the same to me? I want to go to Richmond. They also have a better list”

As good as Grundy is teams without elite rucks have clinched most of the titles over the past few years, sans the Eagles with Dean Cox.

They can pay Grundy a million a year but if he's got less quality to give it to they arent going anywhere.
Give me triple premiership ruckman nank

You would think if Adelaide were going to trade for Grundy, that Pick 1 would have been on the table. The Pies could have had their next 10 year tall forward but instead gave the money to Grundy. When was the last time a premiership was won because of a star ruckman, I wouldn't regard Nank as what the comp refers to as a "star".

Richmond 2020 - Nope
Richmond 2019 - Nope
West Coast 2018 - Nope
Richmond 2017 - Yep (Grigga haha)
2016 - Bulldogs - Nope
2015 - Hawks - Nope
2014 - Hawks - Nope
2013 - Hawks - Nope
2012 - Sydney - Nope
2011 - Geelong - Nope
2010 - Collingwood - Nope

I won't go back any further but having such a large amount of your cap tied up in a ruckman where history tells us you don't need a superstar ruck to win a premiership. Now lets look at tall forwards.

Richmond 2020 - Yep - Jack and Lynch
Richmond 2019 - Yep - Jack and Lynch
West Coast 2018 - Yep - Kennedy and Darling
Richmond 2017 - Yep - Jack
2016 - Bulldogs - Yep - Boyd
2015 - Hawks - Yep - Roughead and Gunston
2014 - Hawks - Yep - Roughead and Gunston
2013 - Hawks - Yep - Buddy, Roughead and Gunston
2012 - Sydney - Nope
2011 - Geelong - Hawkins
2010 - Collingwood - Cloke (but wasn't important on GF day)

So do I give the big contract within my cap to the ruckman or the tall forward??? I know which one I'd do.

Yeah, I think paying ruckmen $1m is pure folly. Your bog standard ruck gets the job done 95% as that of the “star” ruck.

I feel Ive been “woke” to NicNat recently. Flashy but he averages 5 kicks and 7 handballs a game. And half a goal a game. 1 contested Mark a game.

And he earns $1m a year! Wtf.

Nank averages 7 kicks and 7 handballs. .3 of a goal. .82 contested Mark a game.

Give me Nank anytime over Nicnat and not just because he’s half the price.

So the Pies have officially declared they are after a Big Fish. I wonder if that was part of the deal with #lolNorf for Stephenson, #lolNorf would consider Stephenson their Big Fish and leave the fishing to Collingwood for this season.

I would've thought that Paul Salmon is a bit too long in the tooth to be making a come back.

Should we pass the hat around and pay for 20tonnes of blood and bone to be dumped on grand poo ba Eddies Lexus

Signed With Love from A collingwood fan?
an admirable suggestion.

in order to contain costs, I volunteer the services of my Ute.

presently, I am having distinct difficulty in seeing out the back window.

there‘s a plethora of premiership stickers.

Why the big purge right now, with no free agents or trades coming in? I'm inclined to believe Walsh & Guy rather than Buckley. Those players weren't wanted by the footy department, salary or no.

That sounded to me that they knew it was all going to blow up, and they bascially fed Treloar the story and used him to try and keep their list together.

Ie. they signed a contract with Treloar knowing full well that they couldn't afford to pay it when they got to the later years. Makes this stink even more. You could mkake a case that they made a mistake and it all caught up to them because of Covid. Now after what Buckley has said this was likely to have always been a problem, Covid or no Covid and yet they continued to sign big money contracts like Grundy etc, when they knew they couldn't even pay the contracts they had already signed.

Sounds worse and worse by the day.

Its called a hole and your meant to stop digging.

The more I hear of this story it sounds like a deliberate attempt to manipulate the salary cap which didn’t work. I can’t see bucks coaching next year and I reckon both he and Ed are dead men walking now.

And they lose their appeal to the AFL on Beams salary / payout so how much salary are they paying players who won’t be there next year........

Kelly says see ya later Eddie boy

Pretty candid interview by Buckley. No real new info or insights, puts a little bit of spin on to soften the blows of Treloar and Stephenson treatment, but only a little bit. Bottom line is the public perception that they stuffed up monumentally then stuffed up the way they went about fixing it, is all true.
