The Geelong Cants

That would do.

Would it hurt Salty as much as a loss in a prelim or gf though?
Beaten by the Tigers in a GF.

That’s a delicious thought which it is hoped becomes a reality.

Further, beating anyone in the Big Dance is delicious!

I'd prefer to eliminate them in the first week of the finals
For this year I'll be more than happy if Geelold are eliminated without even reaching the finals.
Year after year of playing finals n ultimately missing out by just that tiny little bit n then all of a sudden there's the inevitable face plant on the wall.
All made just that little bit sweeter by knowing that in each of our flag years we ran all over the top of them to deny them a chance.

**** I'd love to see the Tiges beat the Scats in the Prelim or the GF again this year, reckon it would just about tip Salty over the edge:mhihi
Smash them 1st week & someone else can put them out in str8 sets. Give them something to really think about heading into the off season.

They are going again with the same group that has failed the last few yrs, think we all know the answer....
Definition of madness isn't it???? Doing the same *smile* over n over again but expecting a different result.

Same old bunch of pensioners playing the same old game plan with a handful of underwhelming fringies for window dressing around the edges. Almost good enough to be premiers but year after year there's someone else just that little bit better.

Yay for Geelold, it's nice to see that some things just stay the same year in year out.

Beat them in the prelim by 10 goals, after they finish top 2 and win their 1st final easy. and are leading us by 5 goals at half time.

This thread cracks me up. We fell off the cliff in 2021. We faceplanted. Premiers to what, 12th? That's a faceplant.

We have 3 flags to show for it, but we faceplanted.

I guess it depends whether you think injuries played a big part in our poor year, and think we can bounce back.

Dees had 16 players play all bar 2 games, give us a run like tat & there's every chance we are going for 4 in a row.

As for the Cats, the flashy Bombers are likely to run them off their feet rd 1....

History will show that we tanked to pick what will be universally accepted the 3 best juniors in the country.

This is a 1 in 12 year this year. Year of the Tiger. The gods are on our side.

It's an interesting article, but it's been written many years now and Geelong have found a way to defy the system each time.

One day it will collapse and there will be a fair bit of delight around but I reckon they've earnt the right to have another crack at loading up.
They do TBR and their record of finals is extraordinary but to me part of why it is continuing is because they play 8-9 games at Kardinia Park. It’s their home ground, I get it, but I am not sure it does them any favours in the long term. Their ladder position is flattered by it and then they find out they aren’t quite as good as they think they are when they hit finals at the MCG and elsewhere.
It’s why I expect them to play finals again in 2022 but I don’t see them as a genuine flag chance.

Last time in 2010 was the start of this Dimma era, and now this is the 2nd coming from Feb 1, 2022.

They got beat by 83 points in a prelim, beat by Port by 43 points and rolled a GWS side that was one of the worst finals side of the last decade. And they had a golden run with their old players playing just about every week.

They had a stinking finals. Huge cracks showing. No real talent under 25. Three toes are over the cliff. Would need everything to go right to be a top four side. Reckon 10-14 is the range. The era is over.

I like your thinking, this draft will erase all memories of 2004. :cupgold

For mine another facter is that all we hear from them around Finals time is whingeing about not being able to host Finals on their home ground, if the talk inside the Club is the same as outside it to the media - and i have no reason to believe it isn't - they are essentially running out knowing in their own minds they have a huge disadvantage when in reality it's only a perceived one. This may explain why they have been jumped early so many times in recent yrs.
