The Gabba Grand Final

Typical why not use this crisis to finally get their Night GF.

They'll be saying oh what a success how amazing!....... Lets shift it permanantly!!

Might change his mind about that, when he realise's there is about 20,000 p!ssed Tiges supporters at the Gabba after drinking all day.

Yep. McGowan is a first class knob.
It's hard to rebuke a post of such authority, but perhaps he has been motivated by placing life ahead of $$$, or even football. Maybe especially with the foresight that if Covid really got into WA it would have a good chance of reaching into the vulnerable remote indigenous communities where, it's not hard to imagine, it could reek havoc and take many lives. [But those in WA could comment better]

How much value do you place on a life? Start with one of your family's - and then finish with your own?

Just maybe there's more at stake than a game in the big picture. How many lives lost world-wide? FWIW, I think the WA premier is receiving a lot of local support but see brackets above.

They have beta tested nearly every change they want to implement except 2 less players per side.

Changing the game before our eyes without any push back all at the behest of the Corporate overlords under the cover of Covid.

Dont get me wrong IM absolutely stoked that its in Brisbane as we will be our best hope or opportunity to snatch it if we can make it.

Wauiting for the West Coast and Kochies Melts, but serves em right for not assisting the AFL at any stage, only when it suited them to help the Eagles did they finally decide to become more accommodating.

Ha ha ha stuff em.
Eagles fans have been melting hard all over the place since yesterday.

So, are you suggesting that the QLD Govt is placing $$$ above lives?????

With respect, Craig, I think this decision is all due to a totally compromised year with the biggest factor now being to still run and organise a valid, successful GF and avoid a clash with the Cox Plate. The big sports overall, even arch enemies such as NRL, tend to avoid having a clash with their major, ultimate events.

The AFL might have easily rode rough-shod (see what I did there?) over MVRC but the CP is a major racing event - although plenty of non-racing fans might not care less. But it's just a matter of not acting like an arrogant Corporation, keeping other sectors of the community on-side, and avoid making powerful enemies who have long memories that will await payback one day.

I think McLaughlin has recognised earlier this year, before all this Covid nightmare took hold, that AFL fans still don't in the majority want a night GF. Not sure about the weather type in Brisbane in late October, with heat and humidity, but could possibly be better and cooler for southerners like our team too?
Anyway, just my thoughts.

More to do with Isolating and protecting the MIning Industry than anything else, considering the large % of the WA economyn it provides.

Late October night Grand Final in Queensland. Ground could well be greasy. May not make for a great spectacle.

Who cares? As long as the Tiges win I guess!!!

Imagine being the only club in history to win a premiership outside Victoria?

Nice bragging rights to whoever wins it.

Will you be able to go to the granny if we make it ezy? Not sure of the current border restrictions.

Completely the right decision to hold it in QLD. The past few months would have been a lot longer for us Victorians if we didn't have any sport to look forward to. They facilitated that happening and deserve the result. Hope they're able to put on a decent spectacle.

could be *smile* hot with a possible 10 inches of rain too

Not at all. FYI, I just googled as I didn't actually know, where our indigenous population live by state because I'd only surmised WA's reasons. NSW has the highest, followed by Qld! However, I happened to be correct in the respect of NT followed by WA having the highest proportion in remote communities.

Qld has had the good fortune to keep Covid under relatively strict control so were willing to accept the AFL largely being moved into their hub, enabling the comp to even continue in '20. Of course, there are economic benefits and motivators, which are political too - helping AP's electoral chances.

But, surmising further, other major factors probably the incredible difficulty of controlling WA's vast borders if left open. Plus the fact that AFL is predominantly an eastern seaboard sport/business.

But, no doubt, you are far more qualified to call that premier a knob, having done far more than he to combat the spread of Covid yourself, saving numerous more lives than he in the process.

Other than that, suggest you take it to the Corona thread.

Yes, probably another key factor too, but several valid ones I'd say. Given the economic carnage throughout most of Australia and the world, who can blame him/them?

Nice and magnanimous of you to make it personal Leon because someone has an opposing view to you. Class act

not currently. hoping they expand the border zones by then.

I can picture you throwing a full can of rumbo on grand final night at the tige's players as they do there lap of honour with the cup. Balta springs up and takes it at the peak height of its flight, then hands it down to Bakes who makes light work of it.
