The Blair "Which?" Project

here's the thing.

hocking blunted us in 2021, so we took a much needed year off.

back bigger and better than ever in 2022. AFL corruption may have given us a springboard to further glory.

I cant read the article because of pay wall but apparently Daniel Rioli is happy to only sign a one year contract. This is according to Jon Ralph.

“Daniel Rioli is open to signing a deal as short as a single season at Richmond as he settles into his new role as a defensive rebounder.
His manager Ralph Carr told the Herald Sun out-of-contract Rioli was keen to stay at the club despite being dropped and then repurposed in the back six.

With Bachar Houli pushed into retirement there is scope for Rioli and Sydney Stack to become the new defensive duo alongside Jayden Short and Nick Vlastuin.

Rioli settled in well in the last eight weeks of the year, kicking the ball with 85 per cent efficiency in seven of those eight games and providing valuable run.

A two-year deal would get Rioli to free agency but Carr said he could also sign a one-year deal then assess his options.”

Surely we test the water with young Elijah at the Suns......! Pick 7 last yr. No game time this yr. 189cm mid touted as possible No 1 prior to his ACL.

Just what we need pending medical of course.

Ralph Malph says:

Rioli - 1yr deal according to Carr. Not huge coin but will back himself in to play well and earn a better deal for 2023 and beyond.

Chol - Wants to stay in Melbourne, not huge interest in him.

Stack - Now season is over his manager will be dealing with Hartley to sort out a new contract.

Can't see why we would hang on to Chol given his inconsistency. We have tried for 4-5 years and it isn't working. Biggest pity about this is the occasional flashes of brilliance.

One of our biggest issues in 2021 has been an inability to play a full 4 quarter game. Chol fades in and out of games which just personifies this issue. Delist.

i reckon we would keep him if he doesnt walk out. he aint great, but as our no4 ruckman, or 4th tall forward he is ok. if he does walk though he wont be any great loss.
hopefully Ryan moves past him next year.

Imagine Chol's abilities with Nank's demeanour, AFL # 1 Ruckman right there.
But unfortunately he doesn't have that drive & it's so frustrating.

Spot on. I think it's vital we hang onto CCJ (and give him No. 12 if he signs on). Chol can go -inconsistent in games, let alone game to game and doesn't cope with the physical contest contact. If we learnt one thing over the past 40 years, it's only consistent high level performers that make a difference.

Not keeping him
No desire. Lacklustre , no urgency.
He will fit in perfectly at GC.
But he is a Good kick

At minimum chips rates I would hold on but that would be at 150-200k for 2 seasons

Why do we need to sign him for 2? If there is little interest, we should be able to sign him for that for just the 1 season and again reassess where he is next year.

Probably wouldn't do 1. If he had a decent year you could leverage and trade. With 1 year you wouldn't get that leverage. He has AFL qualities

Chol would make me sweat bullets as a key back because of how easily he's taken out of the contest by a simple block or slight body contact.

I've said it a million times on here, but i wish our coaches would tell him to innitiate body contact, to make the contact on his terms, not the oppoents. I've seen him crash packs. Just look at JR's mark runnig back, there was Chol coming over the top in a key moment, and likely would have marked it if it wasn't for Jack's heroics. I don't think it's lack of courage, he just gets taken off the line way too easily. Maybe initiating contact would get this out of his game.

Watching that centre clearance last week and the pass into the forward line, he is a potential weapon, but as a ruck, an opponent can take him forward and kick goals on his because of how easily he's beaten in a contest, and as a permanent forward you can't rely on him bringing the ball to ground.

His best is as good as anyone going around, but his worst is putrid. For mine, if anything i'd be trying him as a mobile tall wingman.

Could Chol if stays possibly be used as a key back? Maybe a similar scenario as the dogs used Josh Schache.
Let's not get carried away
Schackies games down back were because Beveridge had 3 defender's missing and he was the only one left.
As soon as 2 came back, out he went.
Chol hasn't got it for AFL.
He is too laid back and lethargic to play the game.
if couldnt get motivated watching his team mates win flags in the last 4 years might sure anything could push him to imposed himself in games.
But He is a very good kick

Chol was given every opportunity to establish himself this year & couldn't. Repeat of previous seasons.
The odd flash in the pan simply doesn't cut it after 6 years on the list.
I'd say he'll be moved on.
