MATCH REPORT
by tigertim
Well, after the week from hell for the RFC we get the clash between traditional rivals GWS and RFC. I posted earlier this week it was a lose/lose game for us: beat GWS ugly and we're pox, beat them easily and "Its only GWS" a lose and we're a basket case.
For this match "review" I'm simply just going to make notes as the game goes so it's not written in hindsight. Here goes.....
Q1: the game gets off to a good start with Lennon intercepting a mark for a nice pass to Jack for the opening goal.
Morris starts up as defensive forward. Don't know if this a "demotion" or tactical? And another new move with Jack starting off the HBF.
After some scrappy play Matt Thomas (who has started well) finds Jack in the pocket for Jack to kick his second.
We're playing a nice free flowing open game, it's good to watch and most importantly...we are kicking straight! Amazing how much better 8.0 is better than 3.5.
Jack starring with 4 goals for quarter. Quite possibly the best footy we,ve played since the first half of did 1 v Carlton. Now I'm not smart enough to know if we are playing very well or GWS are playing very badly. I THINK we're playing real well but .... Statistically, we've got this game won already. 37 points up at qrt time. The question is what happens from here? We should cream GWS with this start.
Qtr time: us 8.0. Them 1.5. Best: Jack, Thomas, Griffiths
Qtr 2: brilliant start by foley! Opening goal. We were just talking this week how we don't see Nathan streaming out of the middle to kick the goal. Lovely to watch.
I saw Hampson take mark!!!!! You know things are going well. Then he follows it up as a running receiver to pass to Jack for Jacks 5th!
Geez! I can't keep up with this! Everyone is starring and no one is stuffing up.
Jack kicks his 6th....then 7th.....
The game has gone into a lull for last 5 minutes from about the 10 minute mark of this qtr. To be expected after this start. Then S Edwards scores our 13th.
Half time: 14:2 86 to 1:6 12. Best: everyone. A great 2nd quarter and the most pleasing aspect was that we kept going on with it after qrt time.
3rd qrt: GWS start off with 2 quick goals. We're just a little off with our foot and hand disposals (especially Lids). Houli gets one back for us running right from Hbf then a few minutes later Jack gets his 8th.
Whilst GWS are trying harder, the sting is out of the game. The main interest now is "how far?" And for Jack "how many?". Jack kicks his 9th....then 10th....make that 11th....
3/4 time: us 21:4 130 to 3:9 27 (103 point lead)
Last quarter is proving a fizzer as we look very tired. Really not much to add. Jack adds his own mark by taking a mark 15m out but passes to the Chimp instead of going for his 12th! Then Jack follows it with a poster!
Final scores, us: a shed load. Them: 113 less than us......
Best: too many to mention
So my earlier question was whether we were playing well or GWS were really bad. I've come to the conclusion it was both. If the RFC answered every week from hell with a performance like this then give us a week from hell every week!

Cheers tigertim for this week's report. It is always nicer to read the review after a win and what a win at that. Not surprisingly, Jack appeared on every one of the 55 ballots cast this week. It was a remarkable effort, topping the 10 he kicked against the Eagles a few years ago. It was a dominant performance and when the opposition coach resorted to using Heath Shaw on Jack, you knew they were desperate. The performance has propelled Jack into second on the leaderboard, despite some people questioning his output this season. The lead in the Coleman is also a testament to his form. The other major player this week in the voting was Dusty, who has found a rich vein of form over the past fortnight and is playing solid four quarter footy. He was in everything and was an important playmaker throughout the day. Third place was a bit of a raffle, as the PRE crowd spread their one votes around, but Matt Thomas just keeps on keepin' on and managed to pinch the 3rd spot this week after his grunt in the midfield and tackling were rewarded by the voters.
This week brings on a big one as we take on the struggling Bombers in Dreamtime at the 'G. We have struggled in this fixture over the past couple of years and with my whole family coming to the footy this week (for the first time EVER) I would like to see the Tigers send a clear message. The return of big Maric should hopefully lift the side in front of the big crowd. Richmond couldn't drop a big match, could they?
Carn' the Tiges!
