Sport: leave the religion out thanks.

Very funny thread this.

It is a practice that sh!ts me to tears too.

I wonder of there is a Casino or bookmakers in heaven, God would be miles in front dictating all these winners.

What I find most interesting about this thread is that it appears to 'irk' some people rather significantly when sports people make reference to 'Religion' (although from examples given thus far it would be more accurate to say Evangelical and/or Fundamentalist Christians).

There was a good letter in the paper last week: very short "memo to Abbott and Rudd, God does not exist, get on with the job'.

I liked it anyway. Yeah its the whole winning thing that gets to me. God helps the winner, what have the losers done wrong? Or the hardworking people who never even get to play at all?

Its like christians pointing to amazing looking butterflies or parrots or valleys and saying 'God made that, what a good bloke'. What about the parasitic worms in central America that burrow into your heart and kill you? Hyenas? Canetoads? Flies and mozzies? Who made them?

Yep.good thread this one.
Some of you would find it rather amusing to hear me say that Im quite religious......
But,only in the context of 2 words......."Love one another"
And...."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
If everyone in the world adopted the principle on unconditional love....it would be a better place to be in....and....in a lot of ways....it IS a better place to live in.........thanks to millions of wonderful people in the world who quietly go about their unselfish and unthanked task of easing suffering and doing general good towards their fellow men, women, and children. And Im sure their motto is......"Dont give me applause....just a thank you will do...."
Unfortunately........its the wars, conflicts.predjucies and general evils done by the minority that grab more attention than all the good that goes on.....but thats the way of the world I guess.......has always been....and always will be until thast magic day when Everyone can join and celebrate life without predjudice and conflict......
I agree with the notion that all these sportspeople want to acknowledge their "lord"in times of success....will they do the same in times of failure?Yep...........
there are a hell of a lot of"godbotherers"who have nothing better to do but use the name of the "Lord"to push their own agenda and inflate their ego,s........
And they dont realise that what their doing is a really BIG SIN.......subtle that it may be...............

You know a bloke can cop

A reformed smoker

A reformed drinker

but

those born again Christians - they're something else again :don't know

Anyone read "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins?

Only read bits so far but it is brilliant and quite funny at times.

Add Venus (?) Williams to that list after her recent Aus open win. And, not the sporting arena obviously, but equally as pointless, is just about anyone in the USA who has mounted a stage to accept a misic award.

The way Serena carried on, you would have thought God actually played the game for her. Sheesh, poor old Maria Bendarova never had a chance.

Bendarova would be well advised to start thanking Vishnu after games.
Come to think of it, Vishnu 'The hitting machine' V 'The Robed one' would actually get me to watch tennis.
And at the end one of them gets to than themself.

How do you reckon Bhudda with go with a racket in hand? My money is on Vishnu.

Hocking's knees are stuffed. Wouldnt be able to get around the court. Easy win to Vishnu.

G. Ablett did it when he thanked god after winning the Norm Smith in 1989. I would have thought thanking his team mates would have been better form.

Someone mentioned Hayden. he annoys the hell outa me when he crosses himself after getting a hundred. Leave it for yr bedroom Godboy!

Not so sure RT. Reformed smokers and drinkers are nearly as bad.

Whilst I'm not religious, I don't have an issue with it & I'm certainly not offended by it.

If we ever win a premiership again, I might even thank him myself. :eek:ld

See, this is where Redfordology differs from other religions. When any of my disciples have success in anything, or are on the public stage, they are under strict instructions not to thank or give praise to me.

One of the things Redfordology teaches is humility.
