Great game. If that becomes his minimum standard then he'll certainly have justified the trade.

Pre game the various talking heads that discuss the game were saying that Mumford was well and truly ready to come on. Brereton claimed that he was literally frothing at the mouth during training. He was going to destroy Hampson.
Now that Hampson owned him and played his best game for the reason against him, people are saying that Mumford was underdone.

I'm hoping that Hampson was one of the many players who should have been given the "What for" from Hardwick after the Melbourne game.

What I'm not hoping is that the reason he played so well was because he knew he was playing against an opposing team who was getting smashed which increased his confidence to the point it greatly increased his ability.

I really want to see him perform on Saturday night.

He didn't do too badly against Mumford which will hopefully hold him in good stead against Ryder and Bellchambers.

A lot of hope there but the fact is we need him to perform.

Maric shouldn't be rushed back - I understand that he was pretty much BOG for the VFL team but he did look tired out there, even in the 1st qtr. He battled like we know he can.

I think we play it safe with Ivan for this week and bring him in against North Melbourne the week after.

Will be an interesting selection committee this week.

Hope this is right and agree to rest Maric for one more week - bringing in big men who are perhaps underdone is a big risk (just ask GWS)

This is right, this has to become MINIMUM standard not the occasional standard.

Maric was great at the bustling stuff on the weekend, but he was super slow getting around the ground. I think it may stick out in the coming weeks.

Won't be dropped this week! ;)

Can't see how we can have Vickery, Griffo, Hampton and Maric in the same side.
One has to make room.
Then again, it's Dimma's pick so anything can happen. :-[

Since Astbury went down, we could maybe shift Griff to the backline to keep all 4 in.

Nah I reckon shift Jack down there to cover Astbury. Dimma can't have him kicking 11 goals again, it's just not the team thing.

Surely we have to be cautious with Ivan, we can't afford to rush him and risk another injury riddled and underperforming 18 months similar to last year. Best to get him fit and allow his body adjust to a full workload again.

Agreed, no need to rush him in

I think the decision is almost in Maric's hands. He is an important player and also a smart guy, he will tell the coaches if he is ready and if he says yes, I think they will listen. Having said that, from the bits of the game I saw between the main game, I think he needs another week.

Postpartum energy

Thinking perhaps some, me included have been a tad harsh on the Hamster so far this year. First year at a new club n carrying the ruck instead of supporting role, father passed away n birth of his first kid. The big pelican has probably been carried a head full of barbed wire n rusty nails the last couple of months.
If his performance against big Mumford n GWS is what we can look forward to as the standard sort of game from him then he won't be too bad. Will be watching his next few weeks with interest, whether he drops back to his earlier levels or maintains and improves on his game against big Mummy.
Lets hope he's found some clear head space and steps things up some more.

Good to see everyone has been doing a little soul searching in the past week... :)

Only the last few minutes actually ;D I know exactly where I keep my shabby little scrap of 's hole hidden. Happy to concede I may have been a bit harsh or even gone early on a player, I'll blame it on the crap the whole teams been serving up so far this year. Hamsters performances were just a focal point for everything that 's been wrong this year.
Doesn't mean I won't be keeping a close eye over the next few weeks just in case the GWS game was an anomaly n he reverts back to form in the ensuing weeks.

Nearly fell off me chair seeing him take the three overhead marks & the two handball receives. Mayor of Hiroshima!
Hope it continues - jury well and truly still out!

Firstly - I apologise if someone has already mentioned this - but - I wasn't prepared to read more than one page back (seriously - I'm amazed this guy is still in the team - but we hope and pray he gets better!)

Anyhow ................

Am I the only one that noticed the name that he (and his beautiful - but now questionable intellect wife) gave his newborn child?

River Alan Thomas Hampson

SURELY I'm not the only one to notice that his son will now be known as R.A.T!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean seriously - it's not rocket science!!!!!!!!

Who does this to their child????

Who doesn't sit for a second and think ..........

'hey - every time a bill comes or formal paperwork for our adult son it will read R.A.T Hampson'

WOW

Didn't they learn anything from Zowie Bowie????

If Ivvy is ready to go for Saturday night like it sounds, Hammer should go out. It'll be harsh because he did have a really good game last weekend, but I don't think we can risk having to rotate Shaun to the forward line.
