Shattered is an understatement!

with tasmania coming into the league in about 5 years, and if we dont quickly try and rebuild before they get all the top end draft picks, i can see us spending the next decade in mediocre town, or even worse.

Hope the club knows where its truly at, and makes the right calls very very quickly

Luckily the last time when we finished near the bottom we already had Martin Cotchin Jack etc coming through, because Suns & Giants got all the craam picks leaving us with not much.

Yes but right now what have we got coming through VFL? Certainly no potential stars just a few journeymen who may improve to become good but not spectacular

On paper when we all did our teams for round 1 I'd look at it and thought that is a top 4 team and the best forward line in the comp.
I knew age was catching up but not to this degree. Grimes and Vlastin have surprised me how quickly their decline is coming.
Maybe some decisions have to be made at the end of the year. If Dusty wanted to go to the Gold Coast it would be a win/win or Broad or Jack Graham wanted to go home we'd get some picks. It will be an interesting year especially with Jack and Cotchin finishing up.
I to thought our f50 would be very dangerous , lynch absence has torpedoed that however I also expected dusty shai and cumbo to fill their boots , with us being no 1 scores in 2022 , I had no reason to think we’d be now closer to 18th . So many of our senior players look clapped out to me , cotch , grimes , macca and their ordinary form just can’t make up the shortfall of so many youngsters in at once
yep am shattered too , has certainly cast a shadow over my winter pastime , don’t want to listen to any footy shows

Most of our early draft selections are long term injured
gibcus r1
brown r1
smith
and several more

Gibcus is already a proven AFL defender whilst most the others are unproven or still learning their trade. However, I am looking forward to see what the kids will bring over the next few seasons

Hm not sure I’ve got gibbo that advanced just yet nevertheless we are stiff not to have our highest pics availability

Showed a bit early then was poor to average last year. And had big question marks on his disposal. Far from proven IMO

Everyone over 28 is savagely down on form or injured. Jack can hold his head up for the year but yesterday was ugly. You can't plan for this type of mass loss of from. As @Redford put it, something is wrong.

Realistically, barring the top 3 on that list, no one else should have declined much at all -28-30 is still peak years these days.

This form decline is something else - is it hunger? Is it poor conditioning?
Is it a culmination of dropping off marginally over the past 2-3 preseasons in training and preparation bc of past success?

I hope they have the answers

Saw this stat on twitter today, and if true, we might as well give up now.

Ranked 18th for kicking efficiency
Ranked 18th for disposal efficiency
Ranked 18th for goal kicking %, from shots on goal

Ranked 1st for most clangers
Ranked 1st for most turnovers

That’s putrid if true. And an indictment on the premiership players and coaching staff

Agreed though , average types like macca as a rule will be lucky to play much post 28 as they are forced to make way for emerging talents

Probably been covered in here , however as we are nearly half way into a *smile* season , there are some huge questions going forward . Biggest thing for me is we are still atop 4 team if we can play with the intensity we did Friday night , how hard is it to play like that for a season ?

What is our list really like going forward , we have a lot of champs playing “ good” footy , however when we were Kings we had a lot of players playing outstanding football. I think there’s about half our 22 playing 10% off .

If the Pies are the bench mark , then we can still win this year , not to many superstars in their prime , however Fly has them playing as Dimma once had the mighty Tiges playing.

Anyhoo , no matter what happens for the rest of the season we are going to have to make huge decisions, we’ve got some pillars in place Taranto , Bolton and Hooper in the middle , the Ruck division , Balta down back , then there’s a lot of “ potential “ and age , if Lynch , Dusty and Grimes are fit they’ll still play vital roles , however there are 4 unproven talents that I believe could be huge to our success or lack of going forward , Ryan continues to grow in all aspects of the game and could well end up being the premier fwd/ruck ruck/fwd going around , Sonsie is that class ball user we need in the midfield mix who also knows where the goals are , Gibcus has now become a real fingers crossed talent , geez it’s a worry to have hammy issues so young with such a ballistic body, let’s say he gets over them mentally and physically then we have another gun key defender and like Balta he dosent just spoil he marks the long bombs. Back to classy ball users in which we are crying out for , Brown could be huge for us , looks the classic modern day half back to me, again like to mark the ball and also like to go for a run and has a great penetrating kick .

The other position im not convinced on is the crucial small “ goal kicking” forward , yes MJs pressure and tackling is A1 however he’s skills by both hand and foot are ok at best , plus atm he just dosent get the ball enough , Mansell yeah there’s a Georgie type role there , however again lacks class , Clarke I like , great goal sense , great kick, however I think he’s destined to be up the ground more , Cumberland is the best of them imho , so often he’s front and square , plus he offers aerial skills , Dimma has definitely got the most out of nearly everyone he’s coached, I just hope he hasn’t got it wrong with Cumbo .

Himmelberg , do we pay a long term contract for a role player, because that’s all he’ll be unless we intend on playing him down back , which he is a much better player , yes having another big bloke forward will help , would we also get his brother on the cheap? I’m just not sure we couldn’t find the equal cheaper or through the draft ( yes it’ll take time)

I wouldn’t have a clue where will be In 12 months

A couple wins changes everything! I'm back to feeling confident again.
We need a good win over the bummers and teams will be looking over their shoulder and not wanting to play a resurgent tiger outfit with Dusty and Shai finding their mojo again.

Yep - especially knocking off the Scats….sure they had a few out but so did we. On the Armchair Experts show after the game they spoke a bit about that and Adam Cooney made the point that he didn’t really think Dangerflop would have made much diff for Geelong….so aside from him they were missing who? Stengle, Close, one of the 2 bothers the midfielder ….? Really they weren’t much worse off than we were….maybe even better off given the importance of Lynch and Nank. It’s also how the win came about too - much more like Tiges of 2017-20….Things suddenly look a bit rosier ….but need to back it up of course…
