Shane Kersten

I'm not so sure he could hold down CHF, he's more of a leading full-forward who probably would have revelled in the eighties and nineties. My only query with Kersten is whether his type are slowly becoming relics of the past. He's certainly not of the calibre of Darling who I believe is capable of playing anywhere on the ground, it really comes down to that leading forward role which is becoming increasingly less important these days. That's not to say they don't exist but clubs are deviating away from the predictable structures of the past. Is he worth spending a first round pick on? I'm not so sure, we've been down this path with Hughes and Limbach, do we really want to tempt fate a third time?

If he's a big strong leading, hard and thumping kick who loves a goal, great understnding of the game, little injuries to date, genuine kid with a love for the game, will only get better, love's to learn, pick him up.

You can get midfielders everywhere....

Actually, I wouldn't mind this guy at pick 15 if the first choice mids are already taken. He could give us very good depth in our tall forwards. Riewoldt, Kersten and one of Vickery/Griffiths woudl all be quite different players, forcing defences to make decisions about who they play where.

There should be good opportunities to get mids with picks 26 and 55. If we get McCarthy in the PSD and rookie a couple more midfield options that will give us good depth through the middle as well.

We could use a good lead up forward, esp a quick one.

I am not against this at all. Haven't seen him this year but the talk was massive on him last year. Someone mentioned Pavlich before. Hmmm tantalising. ;D

We will still get a decent midfielder at 26. Also maybe even at 55. Add McCarthy in the PSD. I am almost convinced.

Seems we need a lead-up half forward it sounds a good choice. Bigger body than the other skinny runts that are available for this role. Any one think he could play this role?

My concern is whether he has enough strings to his bow, he may well turn out to be a useful player but there's also a big chance he'll struggle in the same way that other high picks have struggled - Dowler, Hughes, Notte, Grant, Black. It's been a long time since a traditional leading full forward has made a seamless transition from junior footy to AFL. Most forward lines rely on the power forwards who can take contested marks and can play up the ground a bit. The days of John Longmire's, Scott Cumming's, Peter Sumich's etc seems to be coming to a close. Even a Fevola firing on all cylinders made Carlton a predictable team, today clubs are looking for multiple avenues to goal and an even spread of goal kickers.

We could roll the dice and pick up Kersten but what are the chances he'll vindicate such a high selection? Would he even offer more than Miller? If we're adopting the best available strategy then I reckon there are better options.

Kersten's strings are he is a very skillful player, but has some serious pace. I heard 2.89 sec over 20 meters? That is flying. He is a thumping and accurate kick of the footy too.

As I said, this has merit.

Fair enough! In all honesty i'm sure the club will make the right decision(Hopefully). As Bob stated we can always pick up a mid with our later picks.

Yep,lot's of other promising kpp's you've mentioned haven't come on but how do you know he won't.Look at Jack Riewoldt, teams that had the the opportunity to pick him up ahead of us would be kicking themselves.

Such is the lottery of the draft i suppose.

Do u think he can pinch-hit midfield like Pav can?

Develop his motor and I think he could pinch hit in there. Big call to say he is even remotely going to be like Pavlich, but as a comparison I can see what some are saying.

Just assumed he would go before we get a chance. Now hearing we have told him he is ours if he gets to Pick 15, similar to what I heard about Conca last year about this time too.

Could be very interesting.

Yer wasn't comparing them on quality but more in the way they play. If he has some potential to play midfield and as a hff like Darling as well as being a FF then I think supporters will be a lot happier than an under-sized FF. It's all about the sales pitch :hihi

Again, I hope not. Fingers crossed GWS roll the dice and take him.

True but Jack did come from an extremely strong draft for talls, he's also laden with a bag of tricks that would even make his cousin jealous. The thing I find perplexing about this situation is Brisbane and GWS are screaming out for KP players, why would they overlook Kersten? Something just doesn't add up here.

He's not really a genuine KP though is he? Could grow more I guess.

I think that sums up why Brissy won't take him they have a few undersized guys. Not sure on GWS but im sure they will have their reasons if they dont take him.
