Semi finals 2022: Cleaning dog hair off the couch games

On Freo
I,d kept hearing how good their tall backs were. Supposedly champion All Australian types.
But they were ordinary. Cox had a good 1st quarter against an out of depth Johnson but otherwise he and Luke Ryan were beaten and erratic

Serong got plenty of the ball but like Lachie Neale doesn't always have hurt factor

To be honest they looked a bit nervous. Clear improvement from Freo, they are a decent team. The trick is to build to becoming contenders. They have the chance now with a young team, need to fix some inadequacies and get more experience into their team but Freo could be good for a few years and we will see what they can do.

Dunno about that. Geelong finished top 4 last year and got to play both North Melbourne and West Coast twice. How does that happen? Fair head start for them.

That's just the way it worked out, eagles finished 9th in 2021. No one knew that they were going to be this bad.

Freo in for a massive fall next year. Mass exodus of players. Questions need to be asked why?

Yeah I thought that was odd too. Everyone pumps up Longmuir but there seems to be more than the normal number of players leaving. They do have some guns though.

Longmuire playing a Paul Roos game style in 2022.
Most inspiring bloke in world sport.
Freo's midfield is too small now without Mundy and most likely no Fyfe in there, Howlong & Bradshaw will battle away but when it comes to big games, not good enough.
The Footscary loss looks a whole lot worse today
Serong? Their best player. Gun.

Ninety Thousand, the Filth couldn't match the 94 odd thousand we got against GWS in 2017.
And Freo would have had some real football supporters in attendance compared to 2,000 paid for GWS dancing bears.

After our reappearance in finals took us 4 years and three recruits to get there. Freo could keep improving or not but my crystal ball isn't that far seeing.

I think we need to cool the jest on the pies. Good year good on them, but those close games that they won geez there were some that I couldn't believe they got over the line, Bombers, Blues, GC and Crows. Had they lost even one of them, they don't make the top 4. They won't win all those close games next year, your luck cant last that long. Next year they get a harder fixture, by virtue of finishing top 4.
True they've been plenty if close games, but the way they played freo was impressive
Fantastic speed.
Not saying they're the best team and next week could go either way

People forget you don't have to be the best team, you just have to make the finals and then play three good games.

I said during the first half I felt they could win the flag, they were electric. Second half dropped away but they also kicked about 1 goal 9 in a run at one stage. If they put Freo away by 75 points we'd all be taking notice.

The SCG doesn't suit them but if they can find a way to get past the Swans then look out I reckon.

If they got beaten by Freo in round 8 or 9
There season wouldve turned to shitt.
The big dud got injured and Henry came on and turned the game.
They shouldve lost to hawthorn and North and Essendon but now they believe they can beat anyone.
I see there 27 point loss to Sydney similar to the loss we had in Geelong in 17 and then went om to ream them in the finals.
I believe the winner of Saturday's game will win the flag.

Luckily we didn't have to play north twice.
Well yes it would not have been a head start for us given our recent record against North. Can not for the life of me understand why we have so much trouble with these minnows.

But given Geelong has won the last 10 games against North (average 40 point margin) going back to 2016 it is a fair leg up to them. They also played them twice in 2021. Not a bad gig for a team that finishes top 4 every year to get to play the worst team in 3 decades 4 times in 2 years.

They get a fair run the Cats. On top of the biggest home ground advantage in the AFL.

As a top 6 finisher they got a maximum of one double-up fixture against bottom 6 teams (=North). West Coast was a middle 6 finisher.

Yeah they got lucky on West Coast. But the fact remains North is clearly the worst performed team of the last few seasons; won a total of 7 games across the 2020 and 2021 seasons but somehow the Cats, who absolutely destroy them most times they play them, get to play them twice in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The Cats get an armchair ride from the AFL. Not too mention the Victorian state government. How many Victorian AFL clubs get the government to fund a stadium that benefits only one team?
