Round 6 - Other games

Darcy a great ruckman. Only 23
Brodie playing alright in the first half for a Suns offcut. Then was pantsed as Cripps turns into a one man show. He is incredible

That Cripps throw was so obvious and as they panned out there was an umpire right there, either they saw it and didn't pay it or they have eyesight issues. Umpire should be dropped.

Just as an aside, looking at the AFL website, no crowd numbers for any game. What are they up to?

Maybe re configuring their bonuses to be based on 'COVID adjusted' crowd numbers?

Second hand on the ball was a clenched fist during the throwing motion, so a legal hand pass as TBR has tried explaining many times that the AFL n the umpires dept have decided is acceptable.

Just another one of those new fangled rulings and interpretations that disgust the fans and drive us to despair. Meanwhile at H.Q. the flogs in suits chubby in hand insist that the umpires need to be respected and the game is in great shape while giving themselves bonuses.

*smile* off in a hurry Gilligan n take you *smile* wit mates with you.

Hope you are taking the pi5s TM... his right hand does all the work... the left is redundant. I hate the throws too but if the players don't do them they are tackled more and the game also resembles rugby.

Where was this clenched fist you refer to?

Doesn't it highlight how the game has changed.
Its slipped down the slippery slope into the freefall of a handball being anything at all.
At the moment it seems to be that the player only needs two hands on/near the ball.
Everything else goes.

Not to excuse all errors, but to be fair to umpires, sometimes they are blindsided.
Sometimes they are on the obscured side of the pack.
We are not viewing with the naked eye in real time, harder to detect the throw.
Someone clever like Cripps will try it out.
We have the benefit of multiple camera angles.

My take on this as an ex-ump is that you can call a throw by the way a ball moves through the air-it's something about the trajectory and it's a bit of a gut instinct call.

Yes, umpires can be blindsided - FFS, that is why we have so many of them on the ground. Plus, if they are blindsided they are in the wrong position (all 3 of them) which is bad umpiring.

This is the highest level of Australian Rules Football, this is the elite level, these are the best umpires (apparently) - in short, saying "I didn't see" is simply not good enough.

Geelong have an incredibly easy run their next 6-7 games. At a minimum they’ll be 2nd on the ladder after it.

The sooner they get rid of super fast handballs over your head .....which are throws..... the better! Cats and dogs are elite at it!
