Round 4 - The Other Cheese Sandwich Games

Nick Riewoldt has called it out

“Umpires make mistakes and we have come a long way already this year in our non-bashing of the umpires so when an umpire makes a mistake, don’t give us that disgraceful explanation,” he said.
"That was nonsensical.
That’s trying to dig yourself out of a hole with a completely absurd explanation.”

taking mikes off the umps would improve our experience significantly.

they are optically and morally offensive enough, without *smile* us in the ears as well.

That free kick wouldve been paid in the 80's.
That's how blatant it was..
The umpire (experience umpire) explaining how it wasn't. Was turn off the TV time

He is a serial exponent of Pushing in the Back. Constantly gets away with it. Nice to see it has finally been put in the spotlight how this bloke takes many of his marks.

Does anyone know the numbers viewing of games on TV is?
I haven't watched a full game and I have fox.
It's just super hard. The Melbourne Port game 5 mine turned off.
Last night channel flicks all night. And i watched the last 5 mins in mute.

Hawkins has made a career out of pushing blokes in the back.

one of his talents, is positioning himself in the umps blindspot for the timely two handed shove.

he's a cheat, just like Selwood
Only reason he was in the umps blind spot with that Andrew’s push was because the ump had his own head so far up his own arse. Only way he could have missed that.

Someone needs to release a 10 min video of the pushes he has dome over the last 5 yrs.
50 bucks Lynch will get penalised for something half as bad tonight

Now that the Shovekins push is well noticed, you know what sh!ts me now?

It's all over the media. Papers and footy shows but when it happens AGAINST us, it's a deafening silence, especially Pickett's last week.

Hawkins, Selwood and Dangerfield. It’s been going on for years and years. Same with the Western Throwdogs, Cwood and WCE at home who all get umpired totally differently to everyone else in the competition - especially Richmond. Every supporter knows it too.

And a few journos wanna raise one Hawkins incident now ??? Now ? Where’s the proper appraisal regarding the AFL’s umpiring standards for years and years ? Absolute joke. Nobody will say or do anything.

There’s just zero credibility with the AFL (and the media) in respect of the rules, interpretations and umpiring. None. The Cheat League.

This would be good. Is the general disdain for the game on PRE endemic or more a reflection of our full bellies and we are living in mirror world (ie are Carlton and Melbourne supporters watching everything)?

Glad the media is finally calling this out.
5 years too late , but at least it’s a start.
Now for the BS diving forward crap.

I just watched the Hawkins incident and it was a blatant push. I think people would have more respect for the umpires if they just came out and said it was wrong.
Hawkins has been a terrific forward for a long time but he does push out his opponents and has done it for years. However I don’t blame him, if you can get away with it then why wouldn’t you do it?

Yep, add Sellwood ducking, Dangerflog diving & The umpires turning a blind eye to it, pathetic really.

Good on him but IMO he didn’t go far enough. He should have called out all the other favourable but dodgy decisions Cheatkins got all game and in every game he plays.

He’s a *smile* cheat. Gives me the *smile*.

Why do we wait till Nathan Brown brings up it.
It cost Soldo a year off.
He has been doing it consistently for the last 5 yrs and all off sudden he pushes Andrews and Ira news of the week.
Hopefully now the flogs are more aware of it
Exactly. Cheatkins blatant cheating actions caused Soldo an ACL injury and a year out of the game. Yet nothing was said about it in the media. Much like how Clangerfield caved in Vlastuin’s face and caused us to play a man down for the whole 2020 GF. Nothing to see here move on.

I’m not sure how anyone can argue that Geelong doesn’t get favourable treatment.

Yep. He doesn't get that many frees, 37 in his last 74 games. But I am continually amazed how much he gets away with. He's older and slower now so he has to rely even more on his dodge tactics which he's employed his whole career.

Last night Danger dived on top of the ball and threw it so many times I lost count. It seems some players are given an eternity to get rid of the ball too when tackled.

It’s not the frees he gets, it’s the ones that don’t get paid against him. It’s unbelievable how much he gets away with.

Although he did get a shocker last night for holding against Adams. In the 3rd quarter there was nothing in it.

Everyone is focusing on the worst one but there were another 3 or 4 not highlighted in the coverage hence getting ignored.

Well, even Mince Whateley (who is a Geelong fan) just said on radio that the review of the umpires performance last night - especially in the last quarter and not just the Hawkins incident - won’t be favourable. A very bad night.

He wants to watch a few more games, especially ours, and get an understanding that this is a regular thing and that on the whole, umpiring is at a shocking standard and has been for some time.

Seriously, was there ever this much consistent conjecture over umpiring in the 80’s or 90’s ? Or even the 2000’s ? Sure, the odd incident or game here and there, but now it’s like every week there’s a plethora of garbage umpired games with a bunch of absurd decisions and inconsistencies.

I blame the AFL more than the umpires. They’ve totally destroyed the adjudication element of the game. Totally destroyed it.
