Backchat from McGovern, no 50m penalty. Nothing to see here unless you’re Richmond.

The umpire handled himself well, and displayed balanced emotional intelligence.

The player was vocal, and by the letter of the new gestapo law probably went on just a little bit, but the umpire read the situation like an adult and just held firm.

If an umpire is incapable of handling a situation like that they shouldn’t be umpiring, and should stay clear of any real life situations where there is any pressure applied.

It should only be a free if the player is verbally abusive towards the umpire, not because they’re making the umpire uncomfortable by ‘talking too much’ or ‘asking too many questions in a loud voice’.

Took until round 2 for essentially abandoning the backchat rule and the stand rule.

I agree, but I’m tipping we were penalised last week for very similar incidents, if not for being even less demonstrative than what McGovern was.

We were, which is part of the ridiculousness of how the rule is set up and when it can be applied.

It allows for unnecessary over reach by umpires who either don’t want to hear almost anything at all from players, and or are applying it the way they think they are supposed to.

And then you get umpires like this evening, who may be smart enough to almost disregard it, because it’s nonsense.

Can't take this seriously anymore.
Players moving on the mark...no 50
Players complaining to the umpire's..No 50
Nearly every handball is a throw.
And 50 bucks Richards gets dropped next week.

33 free kicks to 3/4 time already. 48 in our game last week. A couple others 50 and over. Seems a lot ?

Roark Smith is like Bobby Hill. When the commentators say their name they have to give both given name and surname.

How bad must Teague be, same 22 and he had them cemented in the bottom 4. In steps Voss and scares them into a very competitive team.
Why is Teague at Punt Rd??
