Other years all wartime/post-war.

Partly due to the delayed schedule, but with the shortened season a lot of teams are going hard for wins rather than affording younger players an opportunity.
I think there's likely a strong element of having access to the best 22 compared with most weeks. Hard to get injuries playing Xbox.

Very good point. Player availability is what has pushed it to extreme levels.

The competition has been in an 'old' phase for a while, with average age > 25 since 2014. The last time it was that high was 1942-46.

Bulter in one game has transformed a weak, pathetic football side into a running and controlled side. .
I lost count how many goals he set up or was just involved in.
I will never forget Bulter because on the back of him, Rioli, castagna, Lambert and Edwards we became a machine of a football club.
Bulter was better then Hill, better then Douglal howard, better then Ryder and as good as Jones was.
Im not sure why Butler was traded away for a pick in the 60's when the others went there on the back of first and 2nd rounders.
We need to stop giving our players away.

How's WCs McGovern. .... Apparently his defense on appeal is that he didn't know he hit him..... no doubt that'll get him off. They are in a hub ya know, better cut them some slack.
I knew Soldo should've gone with that last year!

Where 2 games into a weird season but nothing will stop the absurdity that is the MRO.

Burgoyne slams Dangerfield's head into the turf with a sling tackle? MRO says not worries mate you're a top bloke so take this slap on the wrist and a $1K fine

McGovern puts mayo on a free in what can be at worst described as a clumsy attack on the contest by Sexton. McGovern quite rightly gets a free but then whacks Sexton to the jaw and rightly cops a week. That said it was much less dangerous with less impact than what Burgoyne did yet Burgoyne gets off!! Then a bit later McGovern tries to leave an imprint of Sexton's face in the advertising fence yet gets off? That was the worst of the lot with massive scope for potential injury. And McGovern has form in this area.

Dare I say it the MRO continues to be a FARCE! It's about the only thing that hasn't changed in this mad year of 2020.

The push of Sexton into the fence after wasn't great either. I'm surprised he didn't get cited for that one too.

On Burgoyne, he is the sniperist good bloke in the game. Deserved to go (again) but, alas, the good bloke argument always wins out.

Agreed with all of that. Meathead McGovern thinks he should get off because "he didn't think he'd hit him". So what was he trying to do? Been clouted around the head by Sexton's hip, puts massive mayo by swinging his whole body round like he'd been knocked out, then gets up and raises his arms fists clenched but thinks that's ok, really? I agree also on the fence, potential for serious injury there and others have been suspended for that type of thing. Not only McGovern with history there but West Coast, remember NicNat did the same thing a year or so ago.

Also, totally agree on Burgoyne. Just because Diverfield wasn't knocked out means it was ok. It was a horrible looking tackle and was lucky that Danger had one arm not pinned to cushion some of the fall.

Might the MRO be starting to wake up to the continuing saga of staging antics by dangerfield?

Probably no, but maybe Christian really is a bit smarter than the average goldfish.

Long bow. I'm the last person to defend Dangerfield but there was no staging in that. His head was slammed into the turf by that tackle.

Ridiculous decision to only fine Burgoyne. Compare that incident with the one that cost Soldo a week last year. Just laughable.

Lloydy whacked the Hawks list, Hawks fans had a meltdown....

I think Lloyd is right though, you can't expect to find another Buddy or Hodge by taking only 4th and 5th round picks.

Stratton as captain too.... what a joke.

Im not bagging them till after thurzdey night.
There's one common thread this year.
Small fowards have kicked the opposition majority of goals.
And hawthorn have some good ones Breust and Rioli.

Think even Hawthorn fans are starting to see the writing on the wall. Still can't afford to underestimate them. Clarkson will be trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat, like e.g. when they beat GWS twice last year.

Here he is not knowing that he hit him.

This should have been $1K. The shove into the fence should have resulted in suspension for at least a week based on previous history and Burgoyne should get at least 2 weeks.

Good faith trade with the Saints when we go after Hunter Clark.

That wasn't the image of the punch, he punched him through 2 other West Coast players

We often beat them when they were good. They are still relying on Gunston/Puopolo & Bruest to kick a lot of their goals. Patton is a one-trick pony who is perfect for Astbury with his lack of mobility. Grimes or Broad handle Gunston and Vlas will take Breust. O'Brien may play forward but he's very inconsistent. Not sure where their goals will come from.

Frost is athletic but erratic, Lynch is too clever for him. Frawley had one good season and is worse than ever now so Jack might get some confidence back. Sicily doesn't really have a match up against us, just need to avoid his intercepting. Scully looked awful against the cats. Mitchell will take time to get back his best form, he may get 30 plus but isn't damaging.

Yeh they will be sparked by Clarkson but we really should handle them pretty comfortably.
