Round 2 - changes to the team. Richmond v GWS

IMO We have one potential advantage against GWS. Just the one, given our outs.
Our rucks.

Not sure why RCD (who I still dont think will be much more than a C Talent player) isnt playing. We need more pure mids, even the younger less talented ones, in the squad than Maurice Rioli.
I was just thinking this morning, when a team gets that run of centre clearances we can't stop like Q4 vs Carlton, is it worth going defensive and basically tagging all their mids and giving away a professional free if an oppo is about to get the ball (ie holding the man)...I know that's not always possible but just a thought...it's not ideal obviously but the 6-6-6 has really shown up our centre clearance woes

Stack is well down the list of inclusions. Now wondering if we'll see him again at snr level.

Collier-Dawkins should be playing. That he isn't speaks volumes.

Caddy is finished.

Carlscum forward line last night was McKay 204cm, Curnow 193cm, Silvagni 194cm resting forward Dekoning 203cm compare that too
Riewoldt 193cm, Lynch 199cm, Balta 194cm resting ruck Soldo 204cm
IMHO it’s not about being too tall in the forward line Carlscum play very tall in the forward line but it’s their mids and flankers that bring the heat on the opposition ball carrier Whereas atm our mids are nowhere to be seen
Exactly we had no run tackling or grunt when it counted.

Yep, our structure is out of wack ATM. Toooo tall.

Carlton's talls were listed, but they are all mobile enough to pressure.

Of our's only Balta can.

RICHMOND HOPEFUL DESPITE “FRUSTRATING” PRESTIA INJURY

BY ANDREW SLEVISON 2 HOURS AGO

Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley says the club remains hopeful regarding Dion Prestia.

The three-time premiership midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in last week’s season-opening loss to Carlton and is out of the line-up for Sunday’s Round 2 meeting with GWS.

It is yet another soft tissue issue for Prestia who has played just 19 matches since the beginning of the 2020 season, also dealing with a syndesmosis injury in that year.

The 2019 best and fairest is arguably the Tigers’ most important player, especially around the ball, and there remains confidence that the 29-year-old can have a major impact in 2022 and beyond.
“Dion’s had a couple of issues in the last couple of years,” Kingsley said on SEN Breakfast.

“He’s had a syndesmosis in his ankle and then a few hamstrings. We haven’t yet lost confidence in Dion, but just the inconsistent nature of missing a couple, coming back, playing a chunk, missing a couple. Last year was a bit disappointing. The whole shortened pre-season really compromised his preparation to be fair.

“We’re hoping that this is just a hamstring injury that’s quite incidental and then he can move on because he has had a really strong pre-season.
“He was the one guy that we thought was really going to jump back to where he’s been in the past. You could argue in the first quarter-and-a-half that he played (against Carlton) he was outstanding.

“It’s a frustrating one. We’d love to have Dion out there each and every game, but we haven’t this week and we’ll see what that means moving forward whether he can get back.
“It is minor so whether we’re cautious with it and make sure or whether we get him back in for round three, I’m not sure what the planning is.”

Richmond’s midfield was cast aside by the Blues at the MCG last Thursday and this weekend presents a similar challenge in the form of the highly rated Giants on-ball brigade.
The likes of Josh Kelly, Tim Taranto, Callan Ward, Stephen Coniglio and Tom Green form a formidable midfield, but Kingsley has faith in Richmond’s structure.

“They’re obviously a really talented midfield and they’ve got a great mix of inside and outside ability,” Kingsley added.
“It’s going to be a challenge for us, but the reality is we have structures on the inside, we have structures on the outside and we ask our players to really execute their roles and fundamentals.

“A big part of the fundamentals is competing and being able to get their hands on the ball. We’re pretty confident with the guys we have. We think we’re still a pretty good midfield, we just had what would probably be described as a poor quarter.
“We’re still quite confident, but we know that each and every week we’re going to get challenged and we need to be able to compete and get our hands on the ball and do what we’ve done for a long time now.”

After a successful era, there are questions regarding the Tigers’ desire to go again and contend now that many of the club’s established stars are in their twilight years.
So, is the hunger still there?

“We’re confident that we can still compete, but a poor quarter last week puts that in some doubt,” Kingsley replied.
“The season will play out how it does, all we’ll focus on is our game and our players and trying to get the best out of them.
“We still remain quite confident that we’ll be a good team and a team that will compete pretty deep into the season.”
Richmond’s midfield could be further impacted against GWS by the absence of Dustin Martin who is taking time out to deal with a personal issue.

Away from the midfield, Kingsley expects Noah Balta to fill the second key forward slot with Jack Riewoldt sidelined by a thumb injury.
Three-time Coleman Medallist Riewoldt should be back for the Round 3 meeting with St Kilda.

Hate to say this but reckon Jack's absence may just be a blessing. Better balance up forward....and precious opportunity for Tom & Noah to establish synergy.

It will make my weekend as happy as a win,

if we've finally woken up to the lead that Jake Aarts brings to our saddlebag.

RCD must be firmly in the bust pile, with half our midfield out of the side and a glaring deficiency in big bodies?

contract status @taztiger4 ? His manager has a big season ahead

Compare the pear
We bring in Parker and Junior Rioli
When GWS bring back Hogan & Haynes
I might stay home for this one

Contracted until the end of this season. I reckon we might rookie him unless he breaks out this year.
